As Fireball Phil says below, "On the bright side..." I am as optimistic as I've been all season. JJ's back and running the team, the team fought and managed to get back on defense, the energy felt good for 3/4 of the game and Bell hit his threes. Now if Autry can learn how to play the best players for the game in front of him, we'll start to win again.

I'm optimistic too because we added JJ, Bell hit 3s and we still got hammered by 15. The Red apologists are running out of excuses.
If Carlos doesn't play another minute rest of the season I think we'd win half of the remaining games. That guy sucks beyond belief and Red is pathetic as a coach for still playing him so much.

He's a former PG and could be coaching up Cuffe to calm down and take care of the ball for 30 mins per night but for some reason he has a vendetta against the kid. Can't even give Autry the benefit of the doubt on being a nice guy it's so outrageous how he treats Kyle.

Some of us were asking him to make moves 2 months ago, and well, finally he's doing it.
I'm really beginning to believe those who say he really can't judge talent.
He seems to make some awfully peculiar decisions about who to play sometimes.

Okay, first Carlos isn't a ACC level pt guard. But Cuffe isn't either. And we wouldn't win half of our games because he is in the lineup. First of all, he can't guard without fouling. Second, he can't handle the ball. Carlos can at least do that, a little. We don't have an answer at the pt. Might be best to put JJ there.

I didn’t see the game, but it appears that Cuffe fouled out in 14 minutes. That seems pretty bad.

He needs coaching and support tries to do too much because knows hes coming out next whistle for Carlos to come in and let the other team go on a run.

He's a flawed player that overall isn't that good. Great athlete and above average defender so we need him like oxygen.

I have a different kind of optimism. I'm optimistic that this year is part of the journey of our basketball program that will get us to the right point of hiring the right person as the head coach. Someone who will greatly improve the program and take us back to the Tournament (and I don't mean just the ACC Tournament). See, for exemple, our football program. If Dino had been fired earlier than last year we probably wouldn't have Fran Brown as our coach. Dino was fired at just the right time to get us Coach Fran, who got us Kyle McCord, who got us 10 wins, which got us a Top 25 program. Onward and upward. I say patience. We'll get there. But the journey can look messy and unwatchable at times. One might say that JB started us on this journey. Looking backward and blaming the past is irrelevant.

This team is beyond bad, absolutely unwatchable
It really is. It's hard to even sit thru 5mins of it without already knowing we're gonna lost by at least 15 points unless someone has a fluke game which I'm sure will happen once and then people will hail it a success.

I don't even watch any more. Stopped after the Georgetown game.

Cuffe is clearly being failed by the coaching. Im tired of hearing bla bla Cuffe isn't that good, he's not the answer bla bla bs. How would anyone know?
The second Cuffe goes into the game the defensive intensity of the entire team noticeably improves, he just brings that spark on both ends. Unfortunately, the way coach handles him he plays looking over his shoulder the entire time. Resulting in mistakes from trying to do too much.

Set Cuffe free

This is where I'm at. I think about this alot. Dino was 1 win away from an extension. Who would we even have as a QB. OG would've been long gone. November 1 win instead of 4. It seems like forever ago but this all happened in 12 months.

I'll never hope to lose but I will say the more we lose this year the higher the chance drastic changes are made which is what's needed for hoops just like it was needed for football.

Look out ina polity to even try to play defense is the most concerning thing. They don’t even try.

Carlos is no good on this team but if we’re not going to defend who cares?

I agree with you, but the problem is JJ is also not a point guard.

Actually, the real problem is that the team is a collection of misfit toys none of which should play more than maybe 6 minutes at a time and none of which should play more than 20 minutes a game. How do you play a 40 minute game with that type of roster construction? As already said by probably more than one other poster, it is like moving deck chairs on the SS Titanic.

And not for nothing but every point scored by Freeman is easily matched and exceeded by the points he gives up. A lot of missed FSU free throw rebounds in that double double yesterday.

All I know is we are one game closer to a potential solution.

Our defense is in the lower 3rd quartile of all NCAA teams, including low major and mid major programs. 190/367 teams. The only p4 team that matches our defensive prowess is BC (per Bart Torvik). We haven’t played good defense since notre dame, and even then, their bad play might have cooked the numbers. Until we have an iota of a competent D, I believe our struggles will continue.

I know that he isn't. But I think he is the best solution to a bad problem. If he plays the pt., we can have another guy on the floor that might be able to help us score.

Yes. People love to bash Carlos, and he's clearly not good enough to play 35 minutes. But our problem is that this team doesn't seem to have a clue how to play defense at all.

I believe our defense is even worse than that now. When I look at the subcategories we are in the low 200s and 300s.

I can't tell you how much I agree with this. It's so damn frustrating. Even if you're one who doesn't believe in Cuffe, who cares. Put Lobdell in. Anyone. JUST DON'T START CARLOS ANYMORE!!!!! I'd prefer he not play more than 2 minutes a game.

Thank you!!

i've argued for Lobdell.

FWIW I am also optimistic. I am optimistic we will make a change before we let Autry ruin this new class. Attach Melo to the new staff somehow if you need to to keep Key Tony. But This is abysmal. We are turning into DePaul
