Here's a little snippet from an article by Donna Ditota. Link to the article is at the bottom. This is the kind of coach you want to play for, one who has full confidence in you. JB does not mince his words!

Syracuse, N.Y. — When a reporter told Jim Boeheim at ACC Media Day that he had voted for Tyler Ennis as the league's preseason rookie of the year and needed to know whether that choice was "crazy," the Syracuse coach not only assured the man of his sanity, he applauded the recognition.

"You're the only one who's right," Boeheim said. "He's going to play about 38 minutes a game."

I agree with the reason for the post and love JB's support of his players. However, Boeheim's statement that Ennis will play about 38 mpg concerns me. He's a freshman, used to 8 minute quarters with lesser physical stresses. We need Tyler to be strong enough, healthy enough and fresh enough to compete at top level come February and March. I realize that JB knows what he's doing but Ennis is the one player we can least afford to be without for any extended period of time this year.

In games that matter it may be closer to 40 min per game. The cupcakes in December will bring that average down. And he will be the ACC ROY.

I agree with your concern about 38 mpg, but I think Boeheim was saying exactly what he thinks. Against the cupcakes, Ennis will play much less, but come ACC time, I think we see him out there a lot. Hopefully Ennis can handle the heavy workload the way Flynn did.

This is far from the first time where we'll have a PG who "never" comes out in games that matter and are close. GMac hardly ever came out his entire career. Hart's freshman year, he was the only PG and played a ton of minutes. Flynn never came out.

Parker will be rookie of the year because the Media can't go beyond the preseason ratings of the players.

If Parker wins the ROY it will likely be due to Tobacco Road bias.

I take it more to mean that he plays 38 minutes a game in games that matter that are close, not average for the season. I think against opponents we are beating by a comfortable margin like the Clemson's of the world he only plays in the low 30's and you see 10 minutes of Silent G. When we play Duke, NC and any other ACC game that is close and competitive we will see hime for around 36-38. I do love his support for his kids and how loyal he is.

I like JB's loyalty, but he said Fab would be rookie of the year too, so accuracy is pretty much :noidea:.

I don't think he's joking. He won't average that many minutes over a full season, but towards the end of the season in conference? Wouldn't surprise me at all.
