3rd lowest attendance ever I think they said.  But in a way I can understand.  Sugar Bowl is an SEC event, no SEC teams.  Instead 2 SEC teams play in the same stadium less than a week later.  That plus being on a Tuesday, being January 3rd, not exactly the time that the casual fan just takes in a Sugar Bowl when they are getting back to work and can't wait for the following Monday.  Which would mean that probably most of the 64k were fans of one of the teams.  I'd kill to travel like that.

BCS has really botched this up.  Championship game is so far out, and these bowl games being a few days after New Years have to hurt.  Used to be you went somewhere as part of a NYE trip.  Now if you get there on NYE the hotel and drinking/eating money will break you by the time the game comes 4 days later.  I thought I had also heard that there was going to be a new rule that the final game had to be played by Jan 4, or maybe Jan 5?

I will say, the TV ratings being low surprises me a bit.  Meaningless game impact I guess, and clearly a matchup letdown after the 2 national games the day before.  Would just think the Michigan name could get them tuning in.
