What could have been. SU had it in their grasp to win that game. It's honestly one of those games where it felt like the Orange didn't really believe they could play with these guys until halfway through the 3rd quarter. The school name on the side of the helmet was enough for our guys to be unsure about their chances (similar to that USC game in 2012).

They played really well in the 3rd and 4th, only to lose a close one. The problem is it looks like some of the toss ups are much tougher than originally thought. NC State is for real. So is Miami, and Wake Forest seems much more formidable than previous years.

That LSU loss will haunt the fanbase I think, because SU had the athletes and the team to beat the Tigers. It just took them too log to believe that (specifically on the offensive side). Hopefully the team will continue to improve and win a game that they weren't supposed to. Maybe it will be tomorrow. Lets hope so!

What could have been...but

I think winning this one is huge though! Going home to face a down pitt team would give them momentum and be (hopefully) 4-2 going into a huge home game friday th 13th against Clemson. Who knows maybe fans show up and strange things happen?

You raise fair and honest concerns. I counter with HCDB's ability to motivate and draw more from each kid as he shapes them into his team. He has confidence in them and they in him. HCDB can use the LSU game to launch these kids. They now know that they can hang with loaded teams.

Yes, a win would have been better, definitely in the the short term. In the long term, I believe it won't matter.

Expected to open this and see some hyperbole, and was wrong. To me it was the first play of each half that I couldn't get out of my mind the whole ride back to New Orleans.

I'm not sure this is quite up there with the Northwestern, Minnesota and Rutgers games in 2012 that cost the one really good team we've had in the last 15 years a truly special season, but it was a huge missed opportunity.

We'll regret the MTSU loss much, much more. Just think of the tenor of this board & our national perception if we were 3-1 coming off that performance at LSU.
Very true. I've tried to block that one out of my memory! Just a weird game from beginning to end. I wasn't very concerned the whole time, thinking SU will certainly pull this one out. Then they didn't.

So we've lost one we shouldn't have, lost one we were supposed to. Time to go out and win one we're not supposed to today!

It felt so good watching them fight back and get to within two. I looked at my friend and we both believed. Babers will get this team going.
Agreed. I don't see the loss as program changing, just a bump in the road. For the immediate future I have some concern, but long term I trust wholeheartedly in what Dino and crew are doing.

I'm over it?
I'm actually proud of the way the team fought against LSU. It is as close as a loss can get to satisfying. Especially loved the defensive effort. They were getting after it. Immediate future, these two early losses will potentially hurt come bowl time. I agree with the poster above though, that the MTSU loss was more of a gut punch.

I just love watching these guys compete and sometimes win these big "statement" games again. VPI last year, and a tight loss in Baton Rouge shows we're slowly but surely trending in the right direction. Damn do I want a bowl game this year though!

I 100% agree with you. He's definitely a motivator, and a realist at the same time, which is refreshing.

This team probably won't rise up and beat a #1 team right now, but I truly believe for the first time in probably 15 years that SU can compete with anyone. Right now, we have to play close to perfect (execution wise) to do that, because of the lack of truly top notch talent everywhere on the field. I can't wait for the day where our athletes stack up with the top teams. That talent coupled with consistently good execution, will allow us to take down any team we play. Just like the '90s!

I think that day is coming sooner rather than later!

It sucked losing but it was a good game to watch, which in the past wasn’t usually true in a game like this. The way we stayed in the game is, I hope, an indicator we are going in the right direction.

To me, if we truly were the better team in that game, losing that game sucks but it means we should win games this season we didn’t think we could
