and he is an important piece of this team, but, imagine how crazy it would be if he got Wally Pipped. Kiyan played the most amount of minutes of any player tonight and should have shut up any critics who might have thought that he got where he is because he is Melo's boy. Nope. He did a lot of good things to earn those minutes.

Coach Red is under pressure this season. No surprise Wildhack and Syverud had front row seats. Hope they come to every game. And hopefully Coach Red doesn't feel he "owes" minutes to anyone. Just play the most productive guys and let the chips fall where they may.

I root for JJ, but part of the reason Red went out and got all these dudes was because he regressed so much and had to carry a big load. I don’t think this is a Ewing Theory deal but the team needs to be good enough to push JJ’s workload down from the 35 MPG it was last year to something closer to 25.

I would love to see those two guys challenge each other for minutes. I remember the days when we had bench guys really pushing to take minutes away from starters. That's when we were at our best and regularly sending players to the NBA.

I totally agree - I'm not a fan of his game but understand he's going to play. That said if he is playing 35 minutes a game we will not be maximizing the potential of this team.

How this goes with JJ mentally, may be key to season. Hopefully, a member of the team will be the new idea. Not easy when you're an auditioning senior, and rated highly. We don't like to see auditions. I think we're all saying the same thing.

If "member of the team" is intended to suggest he's selfish or not liked by his teammates, then we're not all saying the same thing.

My prediction is he’s back by the 15th. That said I think we would be fine with Kiyan as the two guard. He’s held his own against guys like Darryn Peterson at the prep level.

I love Kiyan and his potential, but lets not get carried away here, just because he had a great game against Binghamton that does not mean that it will immediately translate against ACC caliber foes.

As with any frosh, I expect there will be ups and downs...we still need JJ, but its great to know that if JJ is having an off night that we have so much potential on the bench.

Lets hope he gets better quickly. He did not look good (healthwise) in any of the pre-season games either. Appears to have added a lot of muscle to his upper body. Lets hope he comes back soon and not play hurt.
IMHO he must be healther as he needs to be 100% to play defense that is on par with the rest of the team. His style of driving to the basket needs for him to be 100% otherwise he leaves the ball balancing on the rim. Sophmore year he did that a lot. Last year was better finishing, however, in the preseason games he once again missed easy baskets after a nice drive to the hoop. He's not a spot up shooter and we need his ability to drive to balance the other side for Kings and other 3 point shooters.

yeah man totally...lets not get carried away by the cupcake games...

its great to have kiyan but acc and above is another animal

JJ is a key guy to the teams success...

I just hope that Red doesnt play guys based on predetermined pecking order...and just goes with whomever is playing better

Was there any more detail on length JJ would be out? I know there are various grades that vary in length to be sidelined.

Hope he gets back soon.

JJ's shooting mechanics are still completely jacked. I'll leave it at that.

Kiyan and Kingz >> JJ

Think of it this way

JJ being asked to carry a team puts a lot of pressure on him and i don’t think he’s a first round draft pick type who can carry that load

But can he be a key piece on a tournament team? Absolutely. Less ‘ask’ of JJ to carry that load means he can be more efficient and that team is better having multiple options

We would be a better team with JJ - I hope he's not out for too long.

But we do seem to have more depth this year; more natural looking players out there. Saddiq White and Soare are legit guys to have in the rotation. They will contribute and look like really decent players.
