The reason this story was buried until recently was the lack of a second source. The victim existed, a tape existed, but no back-up existed.

Question: Does anyone know if the PS or ESPN attempted to use Laurie Fine as a corroborating source back in 2003? They had the tape with her voice on it. It would stand to reason they would ask her to be a source to the story.

Wouldn't it be somewhat negligent for them to say they "needed a second source"...then not ask Laurie Fine to be that second source?

If you want to be sensational you dont let a story fizzle like that by asking the person on the tape. That would be real journalism and not sensationalism. ESPN waited for the exact right moment to release this story. Hope it backfires on them.
