I'd like to see decent punt return protection. You could put a gazelle back there, if they don't have the time to at least take two steps before someone is in their grill it really makes no difference.

I know all decisions shouldn't be made on one attempt, but when Desir did catch the one punt, and had some time to return, I saw nothing that would make me think he can make the first guy miss. No worries about him catching the ball though, which is nice for a first timer.

A topic I love to complain about; I don't want Rene back there. He returned ten punts last year, for all of 22 yards. Board members have said "SU doesn't set up to return any thing", "he's got tacklers on top of him every time he catches", "the punter has time to put it anywhere he wants to prevent a return", etc. Ok. Maybe
that's true, but I find it hard to believe, against a schedule that includes Rhode
Island and Tulane, that he could not find a way to get more return stats than
that. I think SU really needs a more explosive returner and more dynamic set
of plays by the punt team. They don't rush the punter, they don't block the
tacklers, they don't return the ball. They haven't had a game changing play by
the punt return team in years. Whatever they can do to get some playmaking
back there, they should do.
