If Freeman keeps playing like this, best SU player since...

We really need to see Donnie against the best of the league.

Alot of the noted players above had extremely talented rosters playing within the same system for years under a HoF coach.

If Donnie plays like he is now against the top of the ACC and changes the trajectory of the whole program and saves Autry’s hindquarters then yes he is up there.

Donnie's awesome. Best talent since at least Dion for sure. He's just gonna get better and could be borderline unstoppable by season's end. Just needs to stay healthy and on the floor. Fingers crossed.

Still think we can do a better job getting him the ball more frequently and in better position. Give him time to cook instead of making him bail us out, which he's pretty damn good at.

Two things to remember about Freeman right now :

His next game will be the 23rd of his career. Warrick averaged 6.1 points and 4.8 rebounds his freshman year. Except, we're comparing Freeman to senior Warrick... And there is an argument to be made.

On the other hand is the second thing to remember. Freeman has missed all the biggest games. Senior Warrick played 10 games against top25 opponents and went 27-7. Meanwhile, Freeman has played zero top25 teams this season. Warrick is underrated because of the Vermont game to end his career here.

Let's ask this question again after the next 14 games.

when talking great players always gotta figure in the talent surrounding them. i'd say bing, pearl , jdub and melo all practically carried the team on their backs to victory . sure they had some solid pieces around them but they drove the bus. still early but donnie seems to be doing the same this year . of course it don't mean nothing if we miss the tourney again.
that would mean we finished poorly and he ranks instead with chris mccullough , donte green and Oshae brissett. very good not great players.

Warrick was incredible offensively his Senior year. One edge Freeman has over him is his 3-point ability. I do find he shoots better from 3 after he scores inside and want him to keep working the game inside out like JB had Melo do.
Melo did not work inside out. His bread and butter was the step back or a quick drive. He had no need to soften up a defender as he could shoot a step back at any time against anyone.

Bulldog has mentioned it but I think a really important factor is that he seems passionate and gets angry on the court.

You need that drive to be great and never satisfied. Hoping he stays healthy and leads Cuse back to the Dance.
He does have an intensity that I don't really remember from last season, although it's hard for me to remember much about him last season with it being so short. He and Kyle really bring it pretty hard all the time.

Best since Battle. I hope he can keep up this level of play and get drafted in the 1st round (late lottery to late teens). We need this to attract top recruits and to show that we can get top recruits to the NBA.

I'm thrilled about how good Donnie is playing, but he's played all of eight games this year, seven of which are against opponents who suck. Let's see how he does against UNC and Duke and Virginia before we anoint him the best since Melo.
Btw that is the comparison I’ll make if his game is translating against the best competition. I don’t know if it will, though against Clemson it really felt like we just needed a little more time and Donnie got going a little too late. Elite shot makers at his height that can play defense, rebound, dribble, and pass are as a premium as it gets in the game of basketball. A player of his height that can do that no matter the competition is someone you build a franchise around.

Yeah, that would be nice. However, I think that notion is kinda ridiculous. If a player is really good (good enough for the nba), he's going to get noticed. Guys from Dook don't get to the nba by superior coaching. They're good to begin with.

Wes Johnson is the best player this team has had since Melo. As good as Warrick, Flynn, and Waiters were I’d put Johnson a clear step above all of those guys.

I would be willing to say Freeman is the best player this team has had since Battle. If he keeps playing like this against top tier competition in the ACC I could maybe be persuaded to go as far back as Waiters.
