If he said no comment when the accusations came out, every single thing out there would be asking if he knew all along, cover-up, Joe Pa 2, etc.

OBVIOUSLY, he came on too strong with the liar bit, but the fact he was on the record thinking he was innocent will ultimately help him, imo.

2 days ago i would say no way but im starting to think -- its helping keep him out of paterno territory

No comment would arouse suspicion imo.

But there's a big gulf betw. no comment and what he said. He should have stuck to the script.

I think he had to say something but when he called the kid (man) a liar I kind of cringed andreally hoped it turned out to be true because I knew that would bite him in the ass... JB is like alot of us and he speaks his mind, sometimes a filter needs to be applied, especially in his position and regarding situations like this.

No brainer. Media people were hammering him but if he didnt speak or gave the old Seargant Schultz response he would have been trashed regardless.

If ESPN didnt sandbag their reporting by withholding the tape for not only 8 years, but also 9 days from the 1st report - Boeheim would have been able to more carefully craft his statement with a little more evidence.

And also on that front, you would think maybe Mike Waters or Donna Ditota would have some sort of decency inside of them to pick up the phone as soon as the report aired and said, hey jim... there is more info coming out. here is what we know.

Let alone handing over tapes to authorities in 03.

Waters, yes. Ditota, after the way JB attacked her last year, not so much

Mike and Donna had no idea what was on that tape. It's not like the Post Standard passed it around. Having said that, it's not their job to keep Jb out of trouble. They would have no idea he would call the guys liar's. Aso, Jb is rough to deal with. With the way he treats the local press, you would expect them to go out of their way for him? Not human nature. But the main point is that while I am sure they knew there was a tape, they didn't know what was on it.

His choice of words were not good. While I got what he was referring to with the "liar" comment, the media rarely explained he was referring to the comment about him going to Fine's room a lot. In retrospect, he should have just said he would support the investigation to its conclusion and left it at that.

Waters admitted yesterday on Francessas show that he had not heard the tape. He knew the paper had it but had not heard it. Plus he wasnt even one of the 2 reporters assigned to the case in the first place.

I have gotten into arguments with people. I have never wanted to publicly embarass anyone the way Boeheim was let out to dry by 'professionals'

The info Boeheim had at hand at the time of the announcement:

Davis was a ball boy
He was friends with bernie fine for 50 years
Davis stole from Hopkins and had a run in with Hopkins
Davis wanted money from Fine years ago
Davis called out boeheim for 'cringing' at him in the bed of a hotel room
This had been investigated before
A relative was all of a sudden the "corrabative' evidence to release this story

Those are the facts. My assumption is he then asked Bernie and Bernie denied everything.

Based on that, its a little easier to see why Boeheim said what he said. Even if it was a little rough around the edges.

EDIT - he shouldnt have said what he said in the way he said it. But ESPN and PS could have helped him a little bit

Waters nor Ditota had ever heard the tape. The investigation was given to a sports reporter who did not cover SU basketball and a news reporter.

I am sorry... i thought i heard he had heard the tape... I thought i read a poster being embarrassed for him on Francescas show? I may have read that wrong, in which case sorry to Mike W and Donna.

Good thing I dont have to worry about being fired for my comments in which I mixed up some facts.

I think that if he did not come out in true Boeheim fashion much like he did... that more people would be saying Jimmy knew things were happening and that he was just like Paterno. I think Jim showed that he knew nothing and was pissed and it helped.
