This.  West Virginia is a major outlier for the conference.  Memphis and Cincy actually make sense geographically for that reason.  If they were to grab more western teams, WVU would just be alienated even further and they'd be a prime candidate to jump conferences if the major conferences ever go to 16 teams.  The threat of them jumping would actually weaken the Big 12.  The B12 needs to try to protect what they have before further expansion occurs.  They're in prime territory for the SEC to grab at least one of the two remaining key pieces, Texas and Oklahoma.  If either of those were to leave you can bet the conference would fall apart.

That brings me to another interesting scenario.. Wouldn't it be great if the other 4 conferences announced tomorrow they were pursuing further expansion.  The B12 is the absolute prime candidate for poaching at this point.  Wouldn't it be awesome if WVU was left to take their Dude and scramble back to the AAC?!?!  Unlikely, but one can wish, no?!
