You realize how the playoffs work, right? The top teams make it after the 5 autobids. Most of those - like 4 most years, and at least 3 all the time - are going to be top 12. So effectively the top 10 teams are “guaranteed” to get in. Notre Dame gets in if they are top 12 instead of top 10 and it’s the end of the friggin’ world? Please. This deal isn’t a nothingburger - but it’s really, really close to it. I’ve argued that the ACC deal is good for Notre Dame since it locks in 6 games every year and scheduling 12 would be much more difficult. But the idea that all P4 schools are going to stop scheduling Notre Dame is absurd. I mean…USC has already said they want to reschedule the series - it’s entirely on Notre Dame to agree to play earlier in the year than they have historically. They probably need to have the ACC games later in the year with big nonconference games in September to mid-October - it’s part of why the deal with the ACC has benefits Notre Dame strategically avoids acknowledging. It locks in late season games that would be much harder to schedule while allowing ND to have big nonconference tilts early in the season just like everyone else.
