They lost a close game to what ended up being a 1 loss Washington team while breaking in a new sophomore QB. By the end of the year they were a well oiled machine that had beaten both teams that had played in the previous year's NC game, one of which ended up playing in that year's game. Everyone knew they were the best team by the end of the year. You can look at a team like our 1992 team. We got drubbed by an average Ohio State team early in the year.
