SUNY-Brockport, for example, its shelf live would be about five days and many would move on.

Everyone cares about the children who were violated. But everyone seems to care more about the scandal because it involves an iconic coach and a big-time athletic program.

Well, yeah. That's how things work.

People cared more about the Bill Clinton sex scandal than some random harassment case at a small business too.

True...but part of the reason this is such big news is the squeaky clean image Penn State and Joe Paterno have cultivated are in the process of being destroyed. If this happened to Barry Switzer at Oklahoma (can't think of a modern parallel), I don't think it would be as big a story.

And credit where it's due...Penn State has totally botched their response up to the point they told Joe he wasn't having a press conference today, so they successfully fanned the flames of the story. If they handled this at all competently, it wouldn't be as big a story RIGHT NOW.

If it happened at SUNY-Brockport, the heads would roll immediately, and Brockport Torch & Pitchfork Co. would have record profits.
