That darned muffed punt by Riley against Middle Tennessee when we were getting the ball back up 16-9. If he just catches that ball, I think our chances of winning the game go up substantially, and we're at home at 5-6 just needing to beat BC to get to a bowl game.

I know, woulda coulda shoulda. But for some reason that one play just sticks in my head.

Not that I disagree with any mentioned, but I'll throw some others in.

Rodney Thomas catching the INT that was right in his hands against Miami.

Ref calling a blatant hold on the 2nd long FSU TD run. Tackled the DL by his jersey. It was as if two wrongs made a right (or a no call).

Cole hitting that FG against FSU.

There are three that essentially broke the season for SU.
  1. Sean Riley dropping the punt against Middle Tennessee State. Up 16-9 in the third with MTSU having the wind knocked out of their sails up until that moment. A touchdown on that drive would have created some much needed distance headed into the fourth. Riley muffs it, MTSU scores and keeps all of the momentum for the upset.
  2. Sean Riley dropping the touchdown against LSU. Would have put SU up 10-7. While the score doesn't look like much to the outside observer, this was a game that SU could have run away with in the first half if not for poor execution. The dropped touchdown would have deflated what little confidence LSU had.
  3. Rodney Williams dropping the interception against Miami. Syracuse was only down 2 at the time. Had he caught the ball, Syracuse would have been in prime position to win that game with a Cole Murphy field goal. He dropped the pass and Miami scored the game sealing touchdown on the following play.
    1. This is 3A. Aaron Servais snapping the ball into the ground on two straight plays down in the red zone. SU could have taken the lead with a TD IIRC. Instead, they had to settle for a long field goal.

Gus Edwa... oh play

Yeah the muffed punt stinks but we still had a full quarter to win the game.

The Sean Riley missed touchdown was such a tough play. It happened in the first half and he's running full speed and full extension. I can forgive him for that. I'd rather LSU not score to open the 2nd half.

I'd say RW missed interception against miami was the key. I think if he gets it and we manage to win the game that's the season changer. We beat Pitt-Clem-@Miami and then we stare at FSU without fear and who knows

Common denominator is Sean Riley stinks

how come no one with CTE mentioned the perfectly logical quasi onside kick and the meaningless 20 yards of field position?

The Williams drops is tough. even if he catches that does he have time to get his feet down? Babers doesn't think so and I haven't replayed it lately but I remember at the time saying he would never have been in bounds.

I vote muffed punt. Not sure we beat LSU with that TD.

The alignment penalty on the Ishmael called back TD reception vs NC State nearly caused me to beat my tv in with a frozen steak.

Oh yeah. We should have either actually onside kicked or kicked off. It looked like we were still trying to decide as Cole approached the football.

Another play that sticks out to me is our own guys tripping over each other on a fumble return that should of been a TD vs MTSU. It's the first play in the below highlight. I think if we score here, we just run away with this game. Ugh.

It wasn't supposed to be an onside kick. Babers himself said that. Murphy screwed up.

how about if we had no instant replay and the FSU fumble at the end really happens.. we get the ball 20 yds closer and another 30 secs on the clock and actually score the TD and the missed FG never happens.

yeah not scoring on the first MTSU To was just the fore shadowing of times we got to the RZ and had to kick.
