Here is an update on some categories as we have completed the out of conference portion of our schedule. Pretty interesting to say the least.
OUT OF CONFERENCE RECORD (7-4)
Sixteen people picked 7-4. Great job and we will revisit this at the end of the season when all the tie breakers will be finalized. But the IGGY COMMITTEE is still agonizing over that Bryant game and the St. Johns game. We knew this season would be a work in progress but if we could do a redo, the IGGY COMMITTEE feels pretty bullish that we would have won those two games or at the very least split them. But we are what our record says we are, paraphrasing Saratoga Springs resident and frequent attendee at Saratoga National Golf Club and the Saratoga Racetrack, the IGGY COMMITTEE'S all-time favorite coach, the Big Tuna himself.
LEADING SCORER-Joe Girard III (15.2 ppg)
So, we had 46 people pick the NYS all-time leading scorer, Joseph Girard the third. No surprise that people would choose the senior combo guard. However, if this was the Price is Right showdown showcase, everyone would be a loser. That's right. All 46 people picked Joe to average more than 15.2 points per game. We will see how this number changes as we start playing against supposedly tougher, more athletic opponents in the Atlantic Coast Conference, because lurking right behind Joe are Jesse Edwards and Judah Mintz at 14.9 points per game. Stay tuned as this could come down to the final games of the season.
LEADING REBOUNDER-Jesse Edwards (11.3 rpg)
Thirty-one people chose the big man from the Netherlands. Of those, the highest was 9.0 rebounds per game, chosen by the very first contestant, Cuseattle. Jesse has had a monster year so far and has greatly improved his rebounding totals from 6.5 rpg from last year. Great job so far this season by Jesse for staying healthy and out of foul trouble, and great job by Cuseattle. The IGGY COMMITTEE is almost ready to box up your award and ship it out west.
NUMBER OF THREES MADE BY JG3
So, a lot of you better hope that Syracuse plays deep into the NCAA tournament based on your prediction of made threes by Joe. Right now, he is averaging 2.75 made threes per game. If Joe plays all 31 regular season games plus two in the ACCT, then he will be at 91 made threes. Using the same formula, Joe would need to play three additional games to get to 99 total. Since half of the entrants chose over 100 made threes, let's hope Joe starts lighting it up at a higher percentage and/or the team catches lightning at the end of the season.
TIEBREAKER-BEST THREE POINT SHOOTING PERCENTAGE
Currently the team leader is Symir Torrence. We had three people choose Symir in the tiebreaker, so great job, but there is a lot of basketball left to be played so the IGGY COMMITTEE is pausing on this for now. Hopefully Symir will continue at his torrid pace, but will someone come off the bench, so to speak, to gain the upper hand.
