Expect culture shock, they expect the south to rise up against the north any day now.  If you stay in the hotel/casino areas, you will be fine.  Like France, Mexico, South America and Africa, Europe and Asia, as long as you have greenbacks you are safe in the tourist areas.

You can get some Cajun cooking but I have been gone so long, I cannot identify the good restaurants.  Ralph & Cackoos?  Blackened Mahi Mahi was off the charts!

Best and least expensive thing to do is to fly into Dallas and drive over.  If the spouses are coming, too, plan an extra day in Dallas for them or if they like to gamble, stay an extra day in Shreveport.  For any military retirees the golf course at Barksdale used to be very nice and you may be able to lock in an hotel room at the base lodging, which is an historic site and used to be very nice.

My wife says that any ladies that come along may like to stop in Marshall, TX, (about halfway between Dallas and Shreveport) and look at the pottery.  I say otherwise, (it's boring to look at, heavy to carry, won't be cheap to ship anywhere especially 0n a plane) but I love my wife so I have complied with her request.

If our Orange are headed there, I may do the day trip thing and bring the clan along for Orange support.  GO ORANGE!
