Their defense is big and tough and defends the run very well. I think they will get a rush on Garrett sometimes but they lack a great pass rusher. To me, they look built to stop ther run. It will be hard to run it on them and I suspect we will need to establish a passing game before we start rolling running the ball. Believe both starters at CB are hurt and they are backfilling with lesser players. We need to take advantage here. Overall, I think their defense is definitely better than UL. On offense, their RBs look pretty good. Not as good as the UL RBs. Their WRs are quite good. Iowa transfer Charlie Jones was the only WR who got open consistently. He is more of an intermediate route possession guy. Very much along the lines of Hudson, the UL WR who they went to so often on Saturday. As other have noted, they pass it a lot and they rarely use long developing routes. Lots of short passes thrown just shortly after the ball is snapped. I think they were afraid of getting sacks against Penn State. They had some athletes on their DL. And as others have mentioned, Aiden is no Malik Cunningham and he isn’t very fast or athletic. Penn State played the Purdue WRs tight, did not respect their ability to make big plays and the Purdue WRs struggled to get open. Only Jones could. O’Connell was forced to throw the ball quickly into tiny windows and he was often unsuccessful. Hence he only completed 29 of 58 throws. I expect Syracuse to play Purdue the same way. Thinking Purdue will probably not try to establish the run as hard as UL did. UL kept trying into the fourth quarter, ignoring their continued failures on this front. Satterfield was not willing to change his game plan and that was great for Syracuse. This one is going to be a dogfight.
