Well, it's certainly seems like its been a while since we've had any news to really cheer about. I don't know about anyone else but I'm feeling really deflated over what has seemed like a litany of bad news for the program. It just doesn't seem right that there has been so much negative juju around the program over the past several years. The specter of the entire NCAA investigation hanging over the program has been like having a tire with a bad patch when you are setting out on a road trip. Arinze going down when we seemed like a sure shot to get a crack at another national title, the whole Melo saga, the Southerland incident, and then the departures of kids we thought we'd have the services of for at least another year. Then the harsh judgement and attendant penalties of the NCAA while knowing we are closing in on the end of JB's tenure at the helm of the program.
Just as all of the NCAA stuff was settling in and some of us were beginning to process it within the framework of optimism and making lemonade when dealt lemons, CM decides it's adios time and a local homegrown kid that you would have thought would have, and should have ended up Orange decides to "take his talents" elsewhere.
So there ya have it. I suppose things could be worse... but really? Wow, it's been a rough stretch for sure. I'm really disappointed and an SU decision by Bryant would have really been a nice thing to center on as a catalyst for starting to get things going in the right direction again but alas, that didn't happen and we apparently head into next season with what we've got.
It really sucks that it's all played out this way but I am going to find some things to be optimistic about and hang my hat on them. I will cheer for the kids we do have, perhaps even more than ever because they have the task of carrying the program through this difficult and challenging era we are entering. They deserve all our support and some modicum of optimism as well. Time will pass and there is also the possibility that the sanctions and penalties will be reduced. If not, so be it we will deal with it regardless.
But if the Gods of college basketball do distribute breaks to programs from time to time and can be the purveyors of good news... I'm ready for some... anytime now!
