I'm sorry if this has already been done but I'm bored at work and I couldn't find a thread like this. Who are your top 5 recruits that will make an impact in the fall, and the five that will have an impact over the long term?
This fall
5.) Wayne Morgan-I honestly had a hard time picking the fifth. I know George Morris and others will be mentioned but I think Morris is fourth on the depth chart and outside of special teams (maybe?) I don't see him playing. In this class the coaching staff wants a lot of guys to redshirt. That being said I think the secondary is wide open outside of Shamarko and will be full of battles (Eskridge vs. Wilkes, Lyn vs. Anderson vs. Desir vs. Reddish vs. George, etc.) If Morgan lives up to the hype he could play at the very least nickel and possibly more.
4.) Myles Davis-With all due respect to Clay Cleveland the FB position appears to be Davis' to lose. If he can catch he could be a weapon. On a side note I would not be suprised to see Louie Addazio get some snaps in spring there.
3.) Zian Jones-He's a big boy. The assumption here is Crume and Bromley/Goggins start in the middle. I believe (and have heard) that one of the Bromley/Goggins tandem will be moved outside. I think Zian will play on running downs specifically if Bromley stays at tackle. That would give us close to 700 lbs. of beef to move around.
2.) Ryan Norton-This may not be a popular pick but I have been a season ticket holder for about 7 years now and I don't ever remember such lousy kickoffs, and coverages. Norton was recruited for one reason. If he can get people regularly starting inside the 30 that is a huge deal for the defense.
1.) Marcus Pierce-Brewster-He was clearly recruited to replace Chandler. He may not play on running downs but think of what Bruce Irvin did for W. Va's defense two years ago as a pass rush specialist. I think Pierce-Brewster could have that type of impact.
Long-term
5.) Ron Thompson-He is a big bodied tight end. He could be second on the depth chart quick, and will be important for at least 3 years
4.) George Morris-He is a talented kid. That being said he is looking up at alot of sophomore and junior rb's on the depth chart. By his junior year he will be a starting back. Till then he seems destined for a redshirt and change of pace guy (1o-15 touches a game).
3.) James Washington-He has a body to play now but appears to be on the short end of the stick on the depth chart (for now). I think eventually he or Lynch will be moved to the middle. Assuming he redshirts this year I think he starts by his sophmore year.
2.) Myles Hilliard & Josh Manley (Tie)-This is lame but I figure they will be the bookends on our d-line for at least two if not three years. I know Hilliard may move inside but I think for now he's an end.
1.) Ashton Broyld-He's a physical freak. So even if he doesn't make it as a QB I think he could be a LB or something else and be good at it. That being said I think he is our starting QB as a RF.
