Phillip B. Williams writes in the Indy Star on Tuesday:
"I didn’t care for the benching of rookie RB Delone Carter, either. Yes, he lost two fumbles before taking a seat. No, fumbling wasn’t in his history. But benching him put fumbling more into his mind. And, of course, when he got a shot later he lost another fumble. The guy was running well. We haven’t seen that kind of power running since Edgerrin James. The only reason the Colts scored in the 62-7 Saints debacle was because Carter showed rare determination, especially on the long run when it seemed tacklers had him a couple of times. With all the mistakes made on this team this year, messages needed to be sent to a rookie who was playing well but lost two fumbles trying to get extra yards? Again, not a smart move. Carter is a tough-minded guy. He’ll get past this. He got the message. But something tells me he knew fumbling was bad before the message was sent."
