Final Top ATTACK Unit Rankings
Syracuse #4
Syracuse #4
Final Defensive Unit Rankings
Syracuse not even Honorable Mention
I agree. I think their whole rankings are weird. Attack is lower than I thought. And how many Syracuse Fans thought our overall midfield units would be #1?That's weird. This is the latest efficiency numbers I can find, and SU came in at #7. They must have updated after the playoffs and not posted it, as they have BU at 7 in their end of season rankings. Ohio State was ranked 4th in the IL list but came in 11th for efficiency rankings which seems like a pretty big gap.
Bad two games for the Orange defense to end the year may have kept them off I'm guessing. In terms of efficiency, they probably didn't do great against Harvard either given the face-off disparity. Feels like they should be given an honorable mention, but it is what it is.

I am sure most of that was based on the strength of our starting midfield, but as hard as we were on the second midfield aside from Anderson, guys who are farther down the depth chart on a teams reserve middies often have similar stats. Cornell and MD had a similar drop after their top 3-4 guys, for instance. There appear to be very few 2nd line middies on the list that have points in the 20s. We also had guys like Birtwistle and Deere taking some 2nd line mins earlier in the season.Yeah, I would put SU at #3 for attack. Harvard was very good, I just think SU had a bit more depth, and they didn't factor in Anderson as a piece.
I was a bit surprised about the midfield getting #1 as well, and ironically they mention SU's depth. I thought it was the shallowest midfield SU rolled out in the last few years. Outside of Anderson (who had to play attack sometimes) they didn't have anyone on the second line who scared you. Weird. Not sure there was another great midfield unit out there though. Would probably put Cornell at the top spot and maybe SU third behind Princeton? ... I think English and his versatility was what put the Orange over the top for IL.
Will be interesting to see who IL has ranked first in these categories for next year.
