Feb 10 Odds March 7 Odds
Kentucky +400 +200
UNC +500 +200
OSU + 500 +800
Cuse +600 +600
Kansas +1200 +800
Duke +1500 +2000
UConn +2000 +6000
MSU +2000 +1000

Sadly many will complain if UK and UNC do not come up on opposite sides of the bracket, preventing the "best" finals matchup..

I hate to be 'that guy', but can you briefly explain to this non-gambler what that means? Obv SU's odds haven't changed. What does it mean when a number goes from +400 to +200?

+100 would be even...

It is the amount u win if u bet $100. You would profit $400 if +400 or $200 if +200 if you risked $100.

Thank you. So if you bet 100 at +400, you would win 400 or 500 (I ask since you said 'profit' 400)?

Bottom line is they are saying UNC and KY are the 'favorites', right?

Well you would get your $100 back plus the $400 you won.

So u would give the bank $100, take back $500...but you really only won $400.

Does that help?

Yes, the lower the +___ the better the odds, the more the favorite to win.

At +400 you'd bet 100 to win 400...and yes, KY and UNC are favorites.

Kind of to put it in an easier perspective you might say the following:
UK 2:1 Odds
UNC 2:1
OSU 8:1
SU 6:1
KU 8:1
Duke 20:1
Uconn 60:1
MSU 10:1

The bet posted for sports futures (although some sites give the above odds) is based on a $100 bet. So in order to win $200 (actually $300 b/c you get your bet back) you must bet $100 on UK. For SU you can win $600 (plus your bet back) for a $100 bet. The higher your winnings obviously reflects the bettors' feelings about a particular team winning. Remember that the odds are not determined by the Book but rather by the bets that are being made ... the more bets on a team to win the NCAA the shorter the odds will become

Roger, they are saying UNC and KY are the favorites. You would profit the least by betting on them

And that's the good news b/c the betting public is right only 1/3rd of the time ... so never bet the chalk (at least in horseracing)

Thanks to all for the responses, from this non-betting newbie.

might drop a hundy on cuse. pretty decent odds right? this team hasnt lost at full strength!

I have 300 on them. Btw Vegas is falling victim to the love affair with unc right now. 6 to 1 is way too much For cuse ,not complaining though. It seems they are dropping the ball like they did in the super bowl and world series. They are good at spreads but terrible at futures.

It looks like a pretty juicy price, esp compared to UNC and UK.

I would be willing to "bet" that the ONLY thing Vegas has a "love affair" with is making money off any schmuck who thinks that Vegas is in love with, or "dropping the ball" on, ANY team.

fair enough I win though

Speaking of odds I would like to thank Vegas for giving Bradshaw 11 to 1 odds on scoring the last td in the super bowl.

This is stretching my memory but my initial thought is that Syracuse was 6:1 (or close) in 2003 too...

Actually, remember that Vegas is no longer in control of the odds ... they set the opening line only. It seems that the betting public have become suddenly enamoured with North Carolina and have lost interest in OSU. I would expect that many bettors are laying down their money on UK b/c of the hype, that they are in 1st place, and b/c many newbies just pick them b/c they are Kentucky (Oh, they do have a good team, too). As in horseracing, tho, I believe the real bettors will lay off Kentucky b/c its too much money to bet for such a small return ...and UNC double that thought. Actually we would be an excellent bet at 6:1 (would have been better at 12:1 where we were about 1-2 months ago).

This is true... anyone who thinks UK and UNC are both 3x as likely to win the title as SU, I have a bridge in Iraq to sell you...
