I went to the the Bona v. Niagara basketball game on Friday night. (Got to love little three basketball, unique and fun atmosphere much different than Cuse) Anyways, I did my undergrad at Niagara and always knew they had a football program up until the 90s. Since it was a sellout, I had to wait to get in the gym and found this little gem in the NU hall of fame.

Sorry about the angle but I did not know that SU ever played Niagara. I could,t believe that my two schools played one another in Football. I can't even remember them playing in Bball. This program is from Archbold in 1947. I just thought this was especially cool for me and wanted to share for all who care. Does anyone know how often SU played Niagara? I assume SU won. I would appreciate any other info.

SU played Niagara twice in the 1940s according to SU Athletics. Syracuse won both games: 14-7 in 1947 and 13-9 in 1948. Both games were played at Archbold. Other unlikely opponents in the 1940s were Clarkson, Georgetown, Lafayette and Western Reserve (now Case Western Reserve University). Lafayette edged the Cuse 14-7 in 1947. I regret to report that Georgetown CRUSHED the Orangemen 28-6 in 1940.

Syracuse - Niagara was a staple during the pre-Big East days. Calvin Murphy (who Syracuse recruited but couldn't get through admissions) held the Manley Field House scoring record.
