If the whole model falls apart, or if we end up with basically 64 or so "major league" schools and the rest on the outside looking in, it becomes a lot harder to make the case to students that it's worth the cost, especially at expensive private schools. Binghamton or New Paltz start looking a lot better, given the huge difference in cost. Also why it's so important for private schools to be able to aggressively discount their prices.
