Is a ban on tackle football...

I think it’s bull sht. None of their business what sports my kid plays.

If it’s a public school district it certainly is their business. Liability is a major school concern And concussion lawsuits are just a matter of time.

Years ago my high school had a fencing team, until a student got severely injured in a tournament. Next year the team was gone.

Tackling should’ve been banned for pre-teens long before now. IMO 7th or 9th Grade are a better time to start, 9th being ideal.

You can teach much about the game of football prior to a 9 yr old getting pummeled by an older lighter.

Agreed 100%. I’ve always thought tackle football should start in either 8th or 9th grade.

For quite a lot of kids, that is the only time they get to spend with a responsible adult who is interested in them and can mentor them.
What does that have to do with anything? Kids could simply play a non-tackle version until they reach the appropriate age.

Is there an appropriate age?

That's the question isn't it. Regardless, participation in the sport is what opens the door to mentorship (the point of your post I responded to), not whether or not tackling is included in it.
