Is anyone confident we can have a winning team under Red next year?
The definition of insanity is doing the same things and hoping for different results. We've already seen sufficient evidence to indicate that Red doesn't have a quality offensive concept, that our defensive effort is horrendous, that this coaching staff overall doesn't seem to "teach" well given the lack of improvement, that they miss a lot of their key recruiting targets, and that their player evaluation on the recruiting trail seems poor. It would be one thing if there were indicators that the coaching and offensive / defensive sets were good, but we just lacked the horses to beat the best teams. If that were the case, we'd be playing well, the players would be working hard, and we could reasonably project that as Red continues to build his team on the recruiting trail / via the portal, that putting better players into a quality system would eventually yield better results. If that were the case, it would make sense to bring him back. The problem is, none of that is what we're seeing. We are barely competitive with the worst programs in our conference, and get routinely blown out by the better opponents we play. To suggest that we have a lousy offensive system is putting it lightly, and we can't defend anybody. Some players have regressed, some never seem to show that they belong at the ACC level, and we don't have any elite prospects coming in. Running it back is dumb under these circumstances. Better to fail fast and not let the program crater even further, to make the job that much more difficult for the next coach.
