Is Baylor the best "major" sports program?

As McDonough just said, Baylor and Ok State are the only teams currently ranked in the top 25 in MCBB, WCBB and FB. Baseball and Lacrosse round out the top 5 revenue sports. Baylor finished last year # 10 in baseball but doesn't compete in lacrosse.

Is there a more consistent, current major sports program? Should that AD get paid more handsomely than someone who games the system, like say DDG?

First, Louisville has teams ranked in the Top 25 in MCBB, WCBB, and FB as well.

But I don't understand precisely why you think TGD games the system. What is meant by that?

Cheers,
Neil

Okla St and Oregon look very good in both revenue sports. Apparently, all you need is an alum donor with immense wealth. It's so easy!

Hey, take up your beef with Sean "Untouchable" McDonough. He's been feeding untruths all night long. He initially said we we 8-0 in the tourney. He said Montgomery was 9th amongst active coaches (without qualifying for D-2 wins), and he said Baylor and OSU were the only 2 ranked teams in those 3 sports.

There are only two revenue sports. Nothing else matters, but I'm really confused as to how you're even attempting to float lacrosse as a (semi-) revenue sport. It's nowhere near.

Really, there's 1 revenue sport - football. I'm not implying that lacrosse is anything special, and if anything, it make my point about Baylor since they would be very competitive in all 4.

Okay, so I'll blame McDonough for leaving out Louisville rather than you. Happy?

But what, if anything, does McDonough have to do with your comment about TGD "gaming the system"? I asked the question in the previous post because I'd like to understand the thinking behind how an AD "games" the system? We know Jurich is probably the best AD, or at least one of the top 3 in the country, while Oregon and Okla. State both have sugar daddies. Even Baylor has two sugar daddy lites in McLane and Walter Humphrey. But how does an AD not at the level of a Jurich and one that has no major donor backing the athletics programs "game" the system?

Cheers,
Neil

I'm referring to his penchant for paying "Olympic" sports coaches well above market rates in order to goose his paycheck when the Director's Cup standings are released. So I posit the question whether limiting it to "major" sports was more appropriate.

Is TGD paid by how well we do in the Director's Cup?

The two olympic sports coaches that I am aware of that are supposedly paid "well above" market value (and I have no idea if this is true or not, just what I have heard) are Gary Gait and Luke Jensen. Since the latter hasn't earned any Director's Cup points that I am aware of, if that were the basis for increasing TGD and he is overpaying a coach not getting it done, wouldn't he have fired him by now?

I think it's more to it than that, myself. But thank you for explaining your position on it. I can't say if it's off base or not simply because I don't have enough information that would allow me to agree or disagree. I do agree that our head football coach and assistant coaches are underpaid. This is where I hope to see the extra ACC $$$ go. And based upon what has happened with others who upgrade conferences, it probably is where it will go and not to any major facilities upgrades as quite a few posters believe that $$$ will.

Cheers,
Neil

I certainly don't know the details of his compensation package, but it's been implied on this forum that his bonus is influenced by Director's Cup performance. Even if a Boeheim doesn't put up a big fight for salary, it certainly seems odd that his pay is so disproportional, relatively speaking, compared to the means of sports like women's lacrosse or field hockey.

LOL Lacrosse and Women's Basketball are not "revenue sports"

Men's lax is close.

4 NCAA championships produce a profit - MBB, Baseball, Men's Ice Hockey & Wrestling. MLAX just about breaks even and is steadily getting closer to making a profit. All the rest lose money by the bucketful.
