I said right away that the 3 more years figure would eventually elongate itself to at least 5. I have that feeling, especially after Hop's 9 game performance. I know a feeling doesn't mean much, but JB just still has a lot left in the tank... and then I see Massimino is still coaching at 81 yrs old at Keiser Sosé State or whatever it is. I feel terrible for Hop tho, that his 9 game stint is perceived as a sickness we had to overcome to get into the tourney. He can't feel good inside about that.

It is almost a benefit for JB. Some people have been begging for years that his time is up...then we saw the alternative. And nobody liked it much. If he ends up taking more time maybe it would be in Hopkins best interest to go somewhere else. I think it will be a really hard task to keep up the success. In ppl mind he sort of already failed in some fans minds. No matter how unfair that is.

if Su makes a FT and beats clemson who knows how perception would have been changed. I think people also over look that some of the things hopkins did with the rotation ended up playing out at year end and people overlook it now because of the record.

As I have said before, it was not Hop's team. He was a sub, and no matter how good he might be, it's JB's team; he is the coach they came to play for and believe in and follow. Over many years of teaching, I had some fantastic subs on the few times I was out, but they were not me, and the students knew that. They knew the real coach was coming back in two or three days. Don't think I was ever out more than three days.

With only 5 games left in the entire season..it is really more objectively apparent how bad the losses during his stretch were..

We gotta appreciate Hopkins loyalty but if he becomes a dud we can easily find ourselves being relegated to the bottom half of the acc real quick

Is the retirement thing tied to the settlement with the ncaa? The timing was tied together, but I can't see how that is in any way enforceable.

Here's hoping 3 years becomes 5 or 6.

I doubt it. Otherwise they wouldn't have bludgeoned him with penalties over little petty crap he wasn't even directly involved in. I can't imagine they'd also be making retirement plan demands as well.

I predict one more season.
That is a real possibility, and I do believe the announced retirement date is the upper end. All of other JB/Hop stuff is just fodder for the fans and media.

Meaning next year and that's it? Or one more on top of their announced 3 last year?

Yes next year and that's it. I ONLY say that because JB isn't the type to want a farewell tour so I think he might retire a year early to avoid it.

I don't think the criticism of Hop is fair. I'm sure JB intended to spend more time preparing Hop for the suspension, and that plan probably went out the window when the suspension was moved up. You could argue that the NCAA handed the first game to Georgetown based on the timing alone.

The way we finished the regular season eases my mind a bit about Hopkins. He was given an incredibly difficult and awkward situation so IMO, it is what it is. I still think he's a promising coach that we all know can recruit.

Two at most but i agree i think he hangs it up after next year

Yeah this is about as certain as anything in this life. 2017 he gone...
