Cat Barber cannot be 1st team.

Jackson from ND, Brogdon from UVA, Johnson from UNC, Allen from Duke is getting on. Who fills out the team? Barber? One of the Miami kids? Mike?

Rule #1 of ACC Sportswriter's award: When in doubt, give a guy from the "Big 4" the benefit. I suspect Brandon Ingram will somehow join Grayson Allen on the 1st team, although Duke looks like the 5th place team. Silent G should be in the conversation, but the hacks in the Triangle have historically really taken care of the local four schools. This means Barber is a shoo-in.

Gerry was 1st team Big East the year we wouldn't of won 10 games and that was our worst record ever in the Big East I believe (7-9). Mike has to be first team. He's fourth in assists in the conference, first in steals, and fifth in scoring.

ACC First team for me is:

Barber
Gbinije
Allen
Brogdon
Brice Johnson

For some reason I can't look this up easily; how many people made first team all league in 2006? Was it 10 or whatever at that point?

I t hink Mike is right on the borderline.

Johnson, Allen and Brogdon are locks. D. Jackson might be too.

I think the final 1st team slot comes down to G, Ingram, Barber and maybe Blossomgame. I assume it'll be Ingram.

2nd team will be the other 3 and McClellan or Rodriguez, and a crapshoot selection from Georges-Hunt/Devin Thomas/Auguste, etc...

Eric Hicks-Cinci
Rudy Gay-Uconn
Steve Novak-Marquette
Aaron Gray-Pitt
Gmac-Syr
Quincy Douby-Rutgers
Allan Ray-Nova
Randy Foye-Nova
Pittsnogle-WVU
Gansey-WVU

So it appears they had 10. An advantage for Gmac for sure. Douby was the leading scorer in the conference that year and Rutgers finished 7-9 as well. Nova was loaded that year. They had Kyle Lowry as well and he made 2nd team Big East. Hard to believe they didn't make the final four, but they were upset/beat by 3 seed and eventual National Champion Florida that year in the Elite 8.

God that was just so stupid. I loved GMac, but he was a 2nd-team caliber conference player that year. This isn't 2nd grade, everyone can't be honored.

I agree. First team should of just been:

Gay
Gray
Foye
Douby
Pittsnogle.

The other guys should of been second teamers.

He is 2nd team IMO.

Brogdon, Allen, Johnson Barber, Ingram.

2nd team will be Jackson, Gbinije, Blossomgate, Rodriguez, Gill.

Does Duke get 2 guys on first team if they finish 6th in the Conference?

I buy this. Who cares, really. Besides, the 2nd team could take down the 1st team. G will be on some team for sure.

Gbinije is borderline. He has a real shot at making the first team, and also a real chance at not making it. Its going to depend on the preferences of the voters.

My question is, does the ACC award a defensive player of the year? Because if they do Gbinije should win it.

Pretty sure Malcolm Brogdon is going to take that one

I think G should be 1st team but I can also see an argument where he is a voters 6th or 7th choice. After Brogdon, Allen and Johnson the next 4 guys are pretty close and each have their strengths when you compare stats, impact, team success ect. I think G should be first team but I wouldn't say it was a complete shaft job if he is second team.

Yes. If there are borderline cases or guys that are arguably on the All-ACC team, then they should defer to upperclassmen. Ingram is a nice player and I'm sure he will be selected highly in the NBA draft, but he's not nearly as important to his team as G is to Syracuse.

If Ingram wants an All-ACC trophy, he's more than welcome to come back for his sophomore year.
