I'm not counting on Dion and Mookie being around next season and am just curious if there are any other "insurance" guards we might be in play for. Triche, MCW and Cooney look good from a talent perspective, but if those are the only three guards on the roster we're really susceptible if an injury hits.

And yes, I realize that I'm asking a question based on a hypothetical, because if we have either Dion or Mookie back next season we're sitting pretty with guards.

where is mookie going?

I think he figures he might take his degree and go...if I was Mookie I would hang around on scholie one more year and start or get a Masters. Not sure what his degree is but maybe a future as a High School BB Coach in the Hudson Valley.

Mookie has stated he values his education. I don't think he'll leave. If he returns next year, it'll only make the team better. Even if he doesn't get much playing time he brings depth, and I'm sure really helps push others in practice.

I thought Mookie was in his last year of elgibility.

Mookie can graduate in the spring and then play anywhere next year without having to sit out a year which would have happened had he transferred

Honestly, I think going after a highly rated JUCO, or a graduating transfer-type could be the way to go. We need someone with some skill, length, and experience, but if the formula is there, it could be the perfect fit. Dion will likely leave, and a JUCO could give us immediate insurance as a fourth guard. Meanwhile, if Dion decides there is a couple million to be made by coming back for one more year, it wouldn't really be a wasted schollie, cause we'd only be on the hook for two years.

Whether Mook stays or goes, I don't think it effects the plan in the tiniest bit.

this is the logical option

To answer Otto's question. I believe MW said in his chat today that the backcourt is set for next year and there will not be anymore guards added.

Get the feeling Mook is happy with Cuse, off the court... think he'll return and just get to watch a top 10 team from a really good seat

Highly unlikely IMO. Wasn't Wes the 2nd ever and Boeheim said he was a special case.

Well, it sure isn't common here, but keep in mind two things regarding my post. First, some comparisons that may have held consistently true in the past may not translate to this new age of Cuse basketball. A lot is changing, so just because things haven't been done previously, doesn't mean there isn't room for improvement. Second, guys like Wes and Blackwell wouldn't fit into the parameter of what I'm thinking, cause we need someone who can play immediately.

Phil Martelli notwithstanding. :D

Mookie will be graduating in May. He will then go somewhere else, and play for one year, and work on his masters. He then hopes to play overseas. That is waht I get from Mike Waters, and from things Mookie has posted in social media. He learned that the most important thing was to finish his education so he could properly care for his daughter. Mookie will end up doing quite well for himself.

At least:
KONG
Wes
Jason Cipolla (from the '96 run)
Blackwell
Ethan Cole
Leo Rautins
Tyrone Albright
Ryan Cahak
LeRon Ellis
Michael Lloyd
Matt Tomaszewski

And these are just those who got some floor time.

FYI: Transfers in and out of SU Hoops: http://www.orangehoops.org/Syracuse Transfers.htm

What a great site orangehoops is! I consider myself a knowledgeable SU fan but I never realized just how good Dave Bing was. In 1966 he averaged 28 points, 6 assists and 10 rebounds. Wow. That's like a Melo on steroids...

Sounds like a good student- and a good guy. Go Mookie!
