A statement on twitter? Really? Is that all we got? The national media, at least on line media, is KILLING SU and JB. Get your heads out of your asses and say something on camera and publicly. Not this twitter BS.

whatever we say, is not going to stop the media from killing us.

I would bet that JB has been muzzled by Cantor...

Now is good time to crawl into a box and close the top. Wake me up when this is over.

Agree. They're handling this like middle schoolers. Embarassing.

Twitter statements should be made after a formal release, heck hold a press conference

I said on another thread that I bet they are consulting attorneys and will get rid of Fine as soon as they know they are doing it in the proper way. Hopefully by tomorrow!

Agree the Twitter bit is a little ridiculous. Unfortunately, as far as responding publicly, I can't think of a worse time than on Thanksgiving weekend. There may not be a public face around to get out there on camera.

There are legal implications in whatever they say or do. It's a holiday weekend and people are just getting back to town. You have to figure that the principal players are gathering and coming up with a strategy as to how to deal with this and a statement will be issued today.

If the allegations turn out to be true, not only is it time for Bernie to be let go, but why not Cantor and Darryl Gross too? Weren't they in their positions when the U did their internal investigation? Surely a competent investigation must have turned up some of this stuff. And if JB was aware, he needs to go, too.
Somehow I hope it is not true - this is so bizarre I have a hard time believing it - but if it is, Bernie is not the only one who needs to be cut loose.

Interns playing with Twitter again?

Nothing on either SU Website, or from the P-S.

Pick your public face and call the presser wherever that person is, the press will show up for this story.

Wagons currently in a circle... something will be forthcoming. Delay is due to making sure it is done in the best possible fashion for 1. The University 2. The Athletic Program. 3. The Basketball Program.

The last thing you want is a press conference. With a press conference, you lose control of your message. If the university says anything more, it will be through a press release.

But I think everyone here is anguished that the university's press strategy isn't based on what people would want who have SU or SU hoops as one of the 25 most important things in their lives. SU has to have a press strategy that is based on a broader range of public interest -- a strategy that works for casual sports fans, non-sports fans who aren't really aware of the story, and for alums, etc., who are more invested.

Seems like BF should resign. Save the university the trouble.

And if his side of the story differs, now's the time to let it be known. His name is already screwed.

SU hired a public relations firm to assist them and perhaps they had some foresight as to what was coming. It seems strange they wouldn't advise SU to get a message out that wasn't social media. I'd be guessing the trustees are involved and having a very interesting chat today with a substantial statement forthcoming. SU can't be seen waffling if Bernie was up to no good, which seems more and more likely. I'd love to get the conference code for today's chit-chat.

Here is the question, was the Laurie Fine tape a part of the SU investigastion by the law firm? Did SU and their law firm investigate ther taper and receive enough information that they felt it was not credible and the allegations untrue. Was the information on the tape known to SU and ignored? Hard to believe a thorough investigation was done adn the tape was not provided by Davis 6 years ago, especially since ESPN had it earlier.

Couple of contrasting issues to keep in mind: a) you always want to get out in front of a story like this and try to not completely let the media or the public dictate the conversation/facts b) this is a very serious, highly sensitive issue involving a police investigation. SU needs to be very calculated in what they say.

Mix these two ideas together and I bet we get something out of SU soon...maybe tonight or maybe tomorrow. However, knowing what I do about the University, I bet they are spending a lot of time sitting around a table trying to who knew what when since many departments - especially athletics - operate in a vacuum. Add in outside counsel and a PR consultant...well, you have a lot of people that need to get on the same page about some very important details before something is said publicly.

It's been almost 8 hours now. I know it has to be calculated but they also have to consider what has gone on in the media and the perception of SU and JB.

Can't help but wonder if the delay is associated with getting ducks in a row for something big--like a JB resignation.

i was thinking same.

Don't under estimate the egos in play here and their accessibility and willingness to come to an agreement quickly about what needs to be said and done.

But you're right. It's been all day. Welcome to academia.
