ever? Spring game on April 4 ? Spring games have always been around April 20. It's highly unlikely our game will be competing with anyone else in the NE, which will (should) mean more recruits visiting.

It's tough getting recruits here when the game date competes against Penn State, BC, Pitt, Maryland and Buttgers.

Now the recruits can really freeze their asses off when they come visit.

Spring football should be in...wait for it...the Spring. There's usually still snow on the ground on 4/4. If they don't want to compete with other schools for visits, then they should hold the spring game a week later than most. Like 5/2.

So I guess you don't want me to tell you that Dukes Spring Game is 2/28. Oh and we currently have snow on the ground and freezing temps here in NC. ;)

5/2 would be way too close to finals. Last time I checked 4/4 was in the spring, despite what CNY weather likes to think.

2 weeks could mean the difference to an injuries starter trying to make it back for summer or even the first game. We've been at a disadvantage in the past compared to schools in warmer climates and/or with an IPF. Recruits know what winter is like in Syracuse. Plus the Spring Game is in the dome - so weather doesn't matter.

Yeah, that's a good point. More recovery time, there are always a few injuries each spring. Depth is already challenged because you only have 4 classes of players (no exiting seniors or incoming true freshmen).

We have an IPF, so it's a scheduling luxury we haven't seen before.

Aren't they doing 2 weeks of spring practice, then giving the kids 2 weeks off then another 2 weeks of spring practice? I thought I read somewhere that for the first time ever they will be able to give the players a real spring break so they can go home.

Something like that. I think I read HCSS say they'd practice for a couple weeks give the kids spring break off to rest and digest the playbook and then resume after spring break. I love that schedule. It makes total sense to give the guys a break to remain fresh physically and mentally.

For sure. Going home is a big deal too.

This may seem OT but if you want to see physical proof of the IPF this is one way. Another was Syracuse v. Cornell Lax. SU having a full field and more time to practice they dominated a very good Cornell. Huge benefits to come

I just always liked having all of April devoted to the football team. February and March is basketball season.

I suppose that was nice, but it makes more sense for the most important people involved, coaches and athletes, to do it earlier.
