On the surface so far certainly looks like we are better offensively this yr, but not nearly as good on d. Anyone see it differently? Go CUSE!

Still think it's a push on offense from last season. If Cooney isn't hitting threes and Ennis is going 1-9 from the field we're not this good. When we have 3 guys who had the games Cooney, Ennis, and Grant did you're not going to lose. We should have won 25 with those guys going off like that.

But cooney is hitting threes.

Defensively we stepped up in the second half. This was a good win

And we didn't win by 25 because of our d. It will get better, no worries...

We played decent defense from about the 7 minute mark on. Just decent. A lot of that was the crummy center play, a lot were the guards getting hung up on that elbow screen. We need to be smarter and not allow opponents to dribble into the lane.

It might be fools gold, but we're playing good basketball in Hawaii. Much better than what we were.
Yep I think we get Dayton next, and I think that will be our toughest test...we shall see

This is a much different team than what we have come to expect. The top of the zone is not freakishly long as we are used too. We aren't nearly as suffocating up top. On offense though, damned, do we ever have "handle". Granted most of it is in Ennis, but I'd put us up against Louisville's pressure.

The last four seasons we kind of started as good as we finished. This year I feel like we are scratching our potential. Don't know whether we will reach that potential but (1) we play better perimeter D and (2) JB integrates one or two of the other freshmen (which he will) - when these things happen, it will be special.

Ennis is obviously not the pro prospect MCW became but he controls a game (as a freshman no less) better than MCW did IMO...steadier handle , more in control, smarter

There isn't really much reason to be negative about this game. Cal shot pretty well behind the arc to keep them in this game. But like our defense does pretty much most of the time they eventually cooled off from 3 and we pulled away to win comfortably against a very good Cal team. We scored 91 pts against what seems to be a half decent defense by Cal.

AND WE WENT 90% AT THE CHARITY STRIPE. OMG THIS TEAM IS ACTUALLY TURNING FREE THROWS INTO FREE THROWS.

Hold on and remember the last we saw our D last season was a zone peak of a really good Defesive squad. It was a wave of greatness out of a good defensive team that was keyed by two of the best ever defensive guards we have had in JB's 2-3.
This team will get better and better on D but we won't ever reach what we saw down the stretch last season which was epic.
Offensively this team has a super high ceiling over last years though! Ennis the technition, Cooney the scorer and CJ the man to go with Grant the slasher and a trifector of bigs.

our 1/2 court offense is atrocious.

nobody can create their own shot.

i know it sounds weird to say after a game like this, but its the truth until proven otherwise.

You are right, that D was indeed epic. It is though rather odd seeing games in the 80's-90's. It hasn't really been that long but we've had a decent spell where we were comfortable in the 50-60's.

ATL I usually agree with you but our offense was very good tonight with barely any points off turnovers and less 2nd chance points than we are used to. We were above 50% from the floor I would guess. Our 1/2 court only sucked extendedly without Ennis if memory serves.

the offense was great tonight. it doesn't mean we have a great offense.

Hard to agree with you after tonight. CJ, Tyler,Trevor and to a degree Jerami all created their own shot tonight. But more to the point, there was good flow in the half court, we attacked the rim and we followed our misses. Excellent offensive performance tonight. And mostly in the half court.

totally agree. this is one of those teams that grows throughout the season. i know it's cliche, but i think this team will be much better in March then it is in November. Let's see what we have

- Ennis - Any team starting a Freshman point guard, no matter how heralded a recruit he is will have some on the job learning. We are already seeing that growth out in Maui. I can't wait to see this kid in March

- Grant - First season getting major minutes. He should also get better. I think we start to see a 15 foot jump shot

- Cooney - Is turning into a marksman every good team wants. His confidence is just beginning to grow

- Coleman - Had an off game tonight, but the 2 prior were promising. If he is given consistent minutes I feel he can have a breakout year.

That's 4 key contributors right there. All they need is in game experience, and confidence.

We will be a better team in March

Tyler Ennis can create his own shot.

half court offense is not about creating your own shots . . . it's about running your stuff. Arinze never created his own shot, but he was the foundation of the great half court offense in 2010. He probably won't be as effective as was AO, but I have very high hopes about DC giving us a similar, consistent low post threat by mid season.

In general this season we have struggled in the 1/2 court agreed, but tonight is an indication of things to come IMO and that is one of the better 1/2 court teams SU has had in a while IMO. Ennis, Cooney, Cj and Jerami spell trouble for defenses as they get more organized and familiar with each other. Its all new and just starting to gel.
