That DM has closed practices and failed to report a depth chart. Does that make me a bad fan? For those that said, who cares as long as we win games, that is by far the best answer. Quite honestly, even with a 2 deep, was anyone expecting something unexpected? I guarantee that the chart Nolan threw up the other day is as close as possible to what it will eventually be. No one is beating out Nassib, and does it really matter who the top 1-2 backs are? They need to spend all their time outworking other staffs at comparable schools. We have to get to a bowl this year. It's March. It simply doesn't make much of a difference for the next 5 months.

Also, the issue about tailgating is getting old. The Dome is not an ideal venue for it, but it is fantastically convenient for students. Tomcat said years ago that the progress and growth of the school would someday force us to move to South Campus, etc. The land the Dome now occupies is just too valuable, and that is apparent every year when they continue to build around it. You can shine it up anyway you choose, but it will never be what we hoped it could be. PSU has a big open field stadium in a corn field, and there is endless room for tailgating. Unfortunately, we don't have that, but the Dome when filled gives us one of the best advantages in college football.

I get that the fans are ticked off, and we need them for that advantage. But as others have said before, perhaps DM realizes that he doesn't need to coddle anymore, but rather just win, and the rest will take care of itself. Let's seriously hope that is the only plan on the board these days.

That, and of course a practice facility!

I'll hop on the bad fan wagon. Who cares? Let's see what they can put on the field this Fall, that is what really will get me PO'd this year.

I feel a little bad for Doug that he can't focus on some of the fun stuff b/c the basics just aren't there. Who wants to deal with that? This guy has coached men at the most advanced level possible and did it successfully. Now he has to deal with boys and it may be much much different from what he expected/hoped for.

While you post is a very reasoned one, it still only talks to a couple of things. I too could care less about a pre-spring depth chart. But I and others could sit here and make a long list of things that have happened over the past several years (longer than DM) that has been anti-fan. No one thing itself is a deal breaker and like I have already said, it is the cumulative effect. SU fans aren't any different than most. So there has to be reasons why there is so much silver and so many complaints. Just because 1 thing doesn't bother everyone, doesn't mean it doesn't bother some. And when there is a long long list of things, it takes it toll on the fan base at large eventually.

And who is the one constant over those years? Daryl Gross.

Would make a big difference if he treated the Football program like it was the Basketball program's brother, not it's step brother. What.

I agree with that. I didn't have the base knowledge to delve into those nor wanted to in this instance. It was more a reflection of these two events that I wanted to touch on. I agree though that it hasn't been smooth sailing over the last many years.

You need to keep in mind that many folks aren't happy unless they're miserable...and...misery loves company, hence, all the nit picking here.

Personally, I hate the way HCDM wears his hair. Just saying.

I do not like the discarding of various traditions - the Saltine Warrior, the SW Fight Song, No. 44, etc - but the other things are really small matters to me.

The cost of the games is very fair. The home schedule is fine with me. I like the uniforms and I like the coaching staff. I think the direction of the program is positive - I'm very happy with the move to the ACC and the improved recruiting base.

I don't like the attitude of too many supposed SU Football fans. There is way too much negativity. There are too many unrealistic expectations. I think there is a tendency to compare college BB success to college football success. Too many worry about the opponent when the real fun is just going to the games and cheering on the Orange. I could not care less that we play Stony Brook - I can't wait to be there because I love the team and I want to watch the team play.

And, I really like the Carrier Dome. There is not a bad seat in the house and I don't like rain and snow and cold.

Sorry, but I just really love SU Football.

Let me guess captain of the cheer leading squad in high school

Spot on. Aside from the spring issues, DM is taking heat that largely belongs with Gross.

Gross has done a ton of great things as well...ACC being one. Deal wasn't all his doing but he played a major major role, there's that. To think otherwise is simply not accurate. I for one really like TGD, he isn't perfect guy for Syracuse as many people will never like his style but oh well

It doesn't make you a bad fan.

Closing practice - There are maybe 10 people it effects. Depth chart - look at the roster, it's pretty freaking obvious.

I think for many people, it's not just closing practice to the fans, it's closing it to the media. A lot of people enjoy reading about the spring practices, it's a few weeks of football fix in the middle of dead time. I always thought that would be a bigger complaint than the dozen or so fans who actually attended. Then again, since Rahme typically can't go anyway (lax responsibilities), there was a media loss either way.

Having said that, I really don't care, as long as we get better.

Depth chart, agree, complete non-issue across the board. There will still be a depth chart after spring, according to what Marrone told Nolan. So everyone overly interested will still get their fix.

Exactly.

Hard to not attach his name with the ACC move, and that will be great for the school no question.

He still treats the football program like the step brother.

How so?

gross has put in new dome turf-
the acc wanted us -i think gross just went along for the ride-i seriously doubt it was done because of him-was he a part, yes but i doubt a large one-

and he hired robinson then marrone-had 1 winning season on his watch-and done no facilities improvements other than the turf that i can think of-maybe the 19o9 style score boards also

took a usc home game and moved it to another state-then sold the best ooc games for the next decade to that crappy state

imho-gross cares more about respect from nyc alumni than those who fill the dome- if he could get them to pony up the money for a awesome practice facility it would be another thing-

can spend money to sell nyc on us but cant afford to have a signing day event-

Could you be any more negative? You need a new hobby. I don't think SU sports are for you.

This is an insane statement. He's made millions of dollars for our program with the meadowlands deal, which is in essence a MSG deal for basketball. He's upgraded all our facilities, and is working towards making more for an indoor football facility. There's really not much more he can do besides build a new stadium, and i'm sure you'd still hate him.

why because i dont have the same opinion as you?

whats not to be negative about ?
did we blow the doors off recruiting?
did we get better as the season wore on ?
were changes made to fix a offense that hasnt worked in 3 years?
is the staff out in public drumming up support?
maybe you just fell in love with the awesome schedule and the way the best ooc games for the next decade are in another state-

Keep beating the same drum. Its boring already. I'm all for warranted and constructive criticism but you are a just a bitcher and moaner. If we went 11-1, you would bitch we weren't undefeated. You strike me as "that guy". And I don't remember you posting much during the Pinstripe year. I'm sure you found something wrong with that season too. The temperature in the Dome wasn't perfect, the beer wasn't cold enough, the offense wasn't exciting, and on and on and on. Fans (used extremely loosely) like you don't deserve Div 1 athletics, period.

Seriously. We are going to the ACC BECAUSE OF FOOTBALL.

If he treated the football program badly then we'd stay in the BE, play our "eastern rivals", fill the Dome, and let the football program rot.

Crazy talk here.
