This point seems to be lost on the locals but its a good one. I would be willing to bet anything that the lion's share of athletic dept and university donations are coming from alums, many of which live in the DC-NYC-Boston metro areas. Syracuse is in a unique position with it being a private University in an area of the country with no other pro sports teams. Its not a state school with a whole state behind it. It really has two factions of fans: (1) the local fan base which sees it as their pro team and (2) the alums which for the most part leave the area after school and settle in the major metro areas. I'm not sure why the locals don't understand that Doc Gross is throwing a bone to those of us who do give to the school financially and do happen to live 4 or 6 or 8 hours away from home base. And for the record, I think the Syracuse area does a great job supporting its athletics. They have made it their pro team and I think they do a great job supporting it. But one game a year in a more centralized location for their alums isn't really too much to ask.
