In my humble opinion, our inability to get a consistent push up front/pressure on the quaterback has been the difference between winning and losing this year. Against Penn State, Hackenberg just had too much time to find out where to go with the ball. Our line was once again manhandled by NW last night. Until we can find an edge rusher, or an Arthur Jones type Nose, we are going to have to blitz in order to get pressure. NW was nothing short of impressive in their ability to pick up and neutralize the blitz. No secondary looks good when the qb has all day to throw. We have some average players who give a heck of a lot of effort...but sometimes its about the joes, not the x's and o's, and this defense is in great need of a talented joe.

How'd you like my Poliquin finish to my post :)

Between the defensive line, offensive line, secondary, quarterback, wide receivers, head coach, offensive coordinator, and defensive coordinator i think we have covered all of our bases on who is to blame for this 0-2 start.

LBs were solid:)

I was there yesterday, and I don't agree about the DL. I think that they are and will continue to develop as an above average group. We don't have classic DEs, and yet we seem to get upfield and put ourselves in position to make plays behind the LOS in a lot of different ways. I just think that Cain Kolter was that freaking amazing yesterday. Hopefully, we won't play to many more players like Cain Kolter, because jesus did he kill us.

I love the raw materials in the secondary, but I have to say that I'm amazed by how many receivers they had yesterday that were completely wide open. Seeing that game live [and admittedly, I haven't watched a replay], my impression was that the secondary was a much bigger problem than our DL yesterday.

No way. D-line is fine. Experienced linebackers + scheme make up for lack of edge rushers (How quickly we forget about Welsh's performance vs PSU). NW took advantage because their offense is filled with experienced playmakers and have seen Shafers D a lot.

I expect the while D to rebound really well against inferior opponents, play improved vs Clemson and then shut down NC State.

the thing that bothers me about this is i don't believe it was lack of physical talent. guys don't get 10 yards open unless it was mental mistakes, or just bad schemes.

Bad coaching Chuck isnt Shafer and Reed isnt Donnie. We have a few coaches who might not make the team next year

I just think we were outclassed by their offense, mostly scheme. The secondary never had a chance, it wasn't because of athleticism, they were so out of position all night it was scary. It was pitch and catch all night not tremendous playmaking. It's what happens when you keep a staff in tact for more than a year or two.

This is when I hate watching games on TV instead of live. I can't watch things develop in the DB vs WR battle.

Great scheme offensively by the Wildcats and the lack of pressure by just the front 4 hurt as Bullough had to blitz to put pressure on the qb. That lead to Colter running all over the place or receivers being covered by fewer people. I'd love to see the whole defensive backfield and how this cover an area went because those receivers found many many open areas. Credit the NW offensive line as well for making sure our front 4 did very little damage.

Also, was it Bromely that chased down Colter about 15 yards or so down the field? Holy crap that was a helluva hustle play!
