Doesn't it seem like we have eligibility issues whenever we play in South Bend? I swear this is like the 4th time something like this has happened. I believe half the team was suspended before a game there in the 90's, and a reserve squad that included Marvin Graves was on standby to play in the place, but the players were reinstated before tipoff. Then Dave Johnson I thought was similarly suspended only to be reinstated. I think there were other incidents over the years too.

The curse of the Irish?

I think Billy Owens was ineligible too for a game SU played there one year.

It was a Billy Owens team, I believe. I also believe (and I could be wrong on this one) that was the game where we wore our road orange unis and ND came out in neon day-glo green unis. I almost turned the color off on my TV and watched in black and white.

Yep, that's right. Ah, Billy Owens - one in a long line of Syracuse players who wouldn't do any coursework.

Well... if God is on their side, who is on ours??

In 1997 SU lost to Notre Dame twice in about a 2 week span in which Todd Burgan was suspended. In the 3rd game at the 1997 BET SU destroyed ND. Those 2 losses against the Irish were huge in a year that SU was on the wrong side of the bubble.

Yeah, Kirbivore. I specifically bought tix to the BET that year, because I knew that we would not lose to ND with a whole squad. We kicked tail, but then lost to Nova the next day. I don't think we deserved to be dancing that year. We had some bad losses, plus our SOS was weak. When we lost in the first game of that pre-season tourney (?) to Kentucky by 30, we had to play two teams with RPI's in the 300's.

If I remember correctly, we started to turn it around slightly towards the end of the year, but a home loss to Pitt in the regular season finale was the nail in our coffin.

Yeah I remember that too. That last loss to Pitt dropped SU to an 8 seed in the BET, forcing them to beat ND in the 8/9 game then losing to #1 Villanova. Beat Pitt and they are higher seeded and have a better chance of winning two games in New York.
