It doesn't matter a rats a$Z if they are drunks, meth heads or child molesters. What the Fines did is indefensible and it is pretty much clear at this point that they perpetrated some vile things upon at least one of these 3 accusers. As for one of them being accused of child molestation, it is common knowlege that most molesters are also victims, themselves of molestation. It is also widely held that the trauma experienced by children who do not possesss the emotional faculties to process what is happening to them will often times develop a wall of denial and set up a paradigm of deceit and secrecy out of shame and guilt resultant from what has been perpatrated upon them. Child molestation is perhaps the most insidious of all crimes against humanity in that it forever changes the life of the victim. So pervasive is the damage that many victims become incapable of developing healthy relationships with others and with themselves. It affects every aspect of their being and identity and will often manifest itself in dis-ease of the individual in the form of destructive behavior, alcoholism, drug abuse and in some cases the self loathing can be so powerful and troublesome that those victims resort to suicide as the only means of escape. All this as a result of being the victim of sexual molestation. So perhaps it would be wise to think over what it would be like to be the victim of such a crime prior to rushing to judgement and condemnation of an individual who overcomes incredible stimga to come forward with the truth. They expose themselves to undue criticism and are called liars, addicts, drunks, ... and well you know the rest. All who do so are part of the problem and not part of the solution. Unfortunately, child molesters live among us, our neighbors, our co-workers, professional people, wealthy people, poor people of all colors and creeds. There is no prototypical child molester in the way that they can be easily identified. It is partially because of blind allegience to people based on familiarity or common ties to those people that they go unchecked and the fact that the act of molestation seems so egregious that we can't believe that someone we know and believe to be a good person can have a dark side which they do not show to anyone excepting their victims. It is easier to rationalize away the accusation by discrediting the victims because the blink, or stammer or display the outward signs which are the manifistation of having been victimized. The truth be known, I, too found myself thinking along those lines as this story unfolded. But I now realize that I was wrong. Very wrong and I regret that I even thought that way. I cannot change the past but I can resolve to do differently in the future.
