the reality is, they wanted to kill clock, so they ran it down, then threw, then they could have run, then called a to and run the last play..

as i think you or others said the first object has to be to score, and not be as worried about leaving NE time on the clock . by worrying more about object 2 they screwed up and failed at object one.

the key is they wernt worried about passing, so they would have been better served to run after running down the clock, call the TO, then throw on 3rd down and the clock would have played out the same, the probably at worst got 2 chances to win instead of one.

would NE have been any better prepared for the throw on 3rd down? perhaps, but it would not have been seen as such a bad play with no TO's left and little time on the clock.

2 games ago SU fans ripped Jimmie for running the obvious play to xmas and pass back to cooney at game end.   now we rip Carrol for not running the obvious play that likely would not have worked and running a play that almost never ends badly.
