[QUOTE="JimBoston, post: 3192011, member: 1312"] When Babers was hired, the big question was his ability to build a program as he had not really done that at either Eastern Illinois or Bowling Green as he was only at each school for 2 years. Building a program includes recruiting and developing players as well as hiring and firing coaches and setting the overall tone for the team. At Eastern Illinois, he turned around a 2-9 team to 7-5 and 10-2. But Eastern Illinois is in FCS and Babers did inherit a junior Jimmy Garapollo. At Bowling Green, he followed Dave Clawson who is now the head coach at Wake Forest. Clawson built the roster and lead Bowling Green to a 10-3 record and Babers followed that up with 8-6 and 10-3 which meant Babers held onto the gains. My concern with Babers is that you can run wide open offenses in lower level conferences and win as you can out scheme the competition even if you don't have vastly superior athletes. At Eastern Illinois and Bowling Green, you can recruit equivalent or better athletes than the competition. At Syracuse, Babers is not going to have superior athletes relative to many of the schools in the ACC. Thus, can you beat the top ACC schools if you have inferior athletes and you are playing similar offensive schemes? And, do you have a defense that can stop athletic up tempo offenses? Last year, Syracuse had a great season as Dungey provided a physical running option to Babers offense which brought Babers offense to a new level. DeVito is a really good passer, but he is not a good runner which changes the dynamic of the offense and it is less effective. I think that in the ACC, Babers needs a QB that is an effective runner to offset the superior athletes that Syracuse is facing. I think Babers can win at Syracuse with the offense he is running, with tweaks, but he can not win at Syracuse unless he recruits much better defensive players and runs a better defensive scheme.
