As the divide grows and you start to see drops in attendance at schools home games because their teams aren't good anymore, dips in ratings because those fan bases lose interest, the NCAA tournament isn't as popular because the gap is so wide there aren't any upsets on Day 1 and 2 that people tune in for so TV deals aren't as big - the money generated dries up or stunts in growth.
