I've seen more than a few opinions out there that SU is not worthy of #1

I hope this stuff gets filtered to the players somehow.

It's nice to have not only a #1 ranking to pump you up, but the tried and true us against the world mentality to back it up.

(I know, I know, if our guys need silly mental tricks to pump them up we've lost already. But still, little things matter. Just ask Frease from Xavier. Nothing like a punch to the jaw and a kick to the head to show that pregame comments can have an effect on what happens in the game.)

I'd say the "us vs the world" thing has been fairly well taken care of by Mark Schwarz and Bobby Davis (and maybe Bernie Fine).

SU doesn't have 1 super star player leading the charge so therefore they are not a "sexy" pick like OSU with Sullinger or UK with handfuls of burger boys every year. Media can't drool all over 1 player 24/7 so they really don't know how to get ratings from us.

I'm sure it pains some voters to vote SU #1, the problem is every other team has proven less deserving than us so like it or not we are their #1 by default.

Well, somebody has to beat us then. Until that time, we're #1. A win at NC St. will silence the critics - then it's off to the Big East and our schedule strength will soar.

People in the media need to remember the polls are not power rankings. If it were a power ranking obviously Syracuse would not be #1. This system simply rewards teams for winning and punishes them for losing.

But otherwise what do we have?
A win over a pretty good Marshall team (in an awfully played game) that isn't getting any national attention.
Contrast that with Duke which has already played Michigan, Mich. St., Kansas & Ohio St.

I think we are due to depth and the flaws of every other team out there. Our first 2 strings are pretty darn good. 1st string is good and experienced, 2nd string is almost as good, a bit green, but with higher ceilings. If we can find any consistancy shooting 3s then we are a matchup nightmare for pretty much anyone this year.

I think our problem, as Syracuse fans, is we're always hyper critical of what we have and how good we are. This team isn't nearly as polished yet as the team we saw 2 years ago but we've got 3 months to get there. It's pretty cool to be #1 in the polls knowing that our team is still capable of playing better.

Honestly we are good enough to be a 2 seed right now and haven't lost so we belong there with the other two seeds that haven't loss a game yet. All top 8 teams are good enough to be number one right now.

What really matters is the BS if's that hit the media.
For example,
They are trying to play the if our subs Southerland, Fair, Melo, Rak, MCW get good enough to be isolation or set piece scorers then we can be number one card.

Which is BS because like the other top 8 teams we are good enough to win it right now.

Its plain and simple If your a top 8 team and you didn't lose then yes you may have gotten lucky, but you belong number one. Its like saying Green Bay should be number one in the country right now.
