Reading these comments brings it all back and reminds me of a story. I was spending a good chunk of dough for my son who is now a player at a lower level D1 program. As someone who was close friends to the club director and has been around the game since childhood I still got sucked into some shitty situations. His club was worth the expense which 4 years ago was around 1400 for 3 summer tournaments and 10 or so practices and focused on development. My son decided to try and pick up some extra exposure (many high level kids go on from our area to also play for Sweetlax which he wasn't interested in) so he hooked up with this LI mercenary club. No practices just the highest level tournaments (at around $400 per). We show up to one at UDelaware there were like 40 kids there on the team including several who had just graduated (summer of 2018) my kid was a 2020 on a 2020 team. Of the kids who graduated, 1 pole is currently a pre-season 1st team AA as a Sr and a midfielder that showed up is a multi year starter/Sr in the IVY. It was insane and sad but a little comical. Needless to say that was the last my kid played for them. Need to be careful and selective, sometime club ball isn't worth it and you need to be very mindful of managing the amount the kids are playing. My son who coaches/trains kids now would tell them find a place where you can play and have fun, enjoy the college experience. D1 can suck the fun out of it.
