Looks like he's flipped to Penn?

Ooof. That stinks. That would mean only Meyer and Peck are committed attackmen for the Orange in the next two recruiting cycles. That does not seem great when you are trying to replace Spallina and probably Thomson (assuming he doesn't go back to midfield) by the time Peck shows up (a lefty where there are already two lefties that see a lot of time).

The depth chart would be:
Deere - Senior
Kraftson - R-Senior
Anderson - Junior
Brett Bucktooth - R-Junior
Owen O'Farrell - Junior
Jake Meyer - Sophomore
Liam Banks Jr - Sophomore
Hansen Peck - Freshmen

I would be surprised if Kraftson, Bucktooth and Banks Jr got serious time. Seems like a pretty thin group. Hopefully they try and flip someone else.

Lot of time left to flip someone or take a flyer on a late bloomer. I assume they will be on the look out for an attackmen now.

He's a 2026. He wouldn't even be here until the 2027 season.

He'll be replaced by then. Either a flip or a portal.

Bummer but he was not the priority recruit in that class. Plenty of time to shore things up.

True, but that’s still not a lot of attackmen to bring in for a two year period. Again, SU is bringing in two. Below is how many attackmen the other ACC schools are bringing in for the ‘25 and ‘26 classes.

Duke - 5
Notre Dame - 6
UNC - 4
UVA - 6

A lot of them are five stars or top 100 players. They probably should have been looking to flip or grab a transfer even before losing Rodriguez. Now they are even more behind.

And just as an aside, the portal isn’t what it once was. I don’t think it’s a good idea going forward to count on it to be a sure thing roster filler, especially when it comes to attackmen.

Can't blame the young man for flipping to an ivy. I remember Desko losing a few recruits to the ivies, Harvard and Princeton in particular. That was an issue with early recruiting, kids would verbal so they would have a spot but the ivies couldn't recruit them until they were juniors.

Losing Rodriguez is certainly not optimal but when you include Banks (yes he's a project type recruit) your looking at 3 attackmen which is not enough but a couple of the other mid recruits can also play attack if needed and I could see Rayfield getting some run there in particular.

Rodriguez flipping now at least gives SU a solid 3-4 months before signing day to scout a flip of their own or a late bloomer who is uncommitted. I do agree that relying on the portal is not an effective strategy who knows what it will look like at this time next year.

Again I wish he would have stayed but SU has plenty of time to go out and get someone who maybe not on the exact level but is pretty close.

It’s a numbers game. Deere and Anderson have established a trajectory. O’Farrell, Meyer and Peck will have a little more pressure on them to be impact players.
