JB interview with Andy Katz

JB's demeanor has seems too have drastically changed direction on this. I know we should not read anything into it but its hard not to.

I hate this whole situation no doubt about it.

he looks old and tired there. either way, this has to be weighing very heavily on him.

He is old and tired. He can't have a smile on his face all the time. That isn't him to begin with.

Very true, I know it weighs heavily on me so its git to be 100 fold on JB.

I thought the same thing. Looks tired and sick of talking about it.

...I believe JB has been coached to bring the level of support down a bit and to tone down a bit...he said he still supports...that investigation has to take place although 3 times nothing has come of it...and if something does happen this time...then re-evaluate his position...I thought it was good...very oriented to bring down the passion level of JB as well as critics

As a rabid fan of the program the suspense of all this is pretty much excruciating. There is more substance to all of this and whatever it may be it is only known by the principals involved at this point in time. This much I know, there are 346 Division 1 Mens Basketball programs and out of all of them ours is the one which is being singled out due to an allegation of impoprieties of a sexual nature having been commited by our long time assistant coach and close confidant of the head coach. I would have thought that the odds of that happening would be infintesmally less than those of us winning a National Championship this year.
I believe that it would be naive to think that the weight of all of this won't have adverse consequences for the team, the coaching staff, the program, and the University. To what extent is anyones guess at this point but in watching the recent wild vacillations in JB's demeanor since this went down it seems apparent that this is already having a profound impact on JB. I think that it is entirely understandable that when something of this nature comes up with someone who has been your right hand man for nearly half a century one would have to be shaken by it.

I'm hoping that whatever the outcome of all of this is that there is a timely resolution in which justice is served and the truth of the matter comes out so this can all be put to rest and all parties can move forward. This team holds so much promise and the cloud of this has dampened the wonderful early season optimism which I'm sure we've all looked forward to. It is also my hope that the allegations turn out to be baseless and unfounded because finding out that Bernie Fine is actually different than the person that I've held in such high esteem for all these years would make all of us a little more jaded and forever change the magic of what it is to be a Syracuse Basketball Fan. We have a program that is unique in so many ways and one of the most wonderful aspects of the program is the undying loyalty of so many fans accross the country. Go anywhere in America to game in which Syracuse is one of the teams playing and it is always amazing how there are fans of the program everywhere. There are too many things to list which make this program special. I hope and pray that those things aren't forever changed by the seeming tragedy which is currently unfolding around the program.

you guys are crazy, what was wrong with that interview??

he yelled from the mountain top once, he calmly said the same things again right there.

clearly, the only thing one can get out of that is that it is being INVESTIGATED...AGAIN.

the original thought last week was probably that the accusations are so ludicrous that this should just laughed at.

i waiting for jake from the board here to accuse me of something.

about 10 years ago, i may have hugged him

inappropriately at the Garden after a big win over gtown, storz or whoever the fluck...and yes, then he slept over.

it's got to be wearing on him. this could end up being his greatest coaching challenge, because this is going to drag on for a long time. he is going to be challenged to keep both himself and his team focused on the task at hand, while being asked about Fine in every interview. this year might take enough out of him to make him say "screw it" and retire as soon as the last whistle blows.

Please consider starting a new paragraph every once in awhile, even if you don't really need to. I wanted to read your post, but just couldn't bring myself to do it. I was intimidated by that monster paragraph.

I believe this is the best, most measured response by J

Don't know if he was coached, but I agree this is the most measured, to the point response JB has offered so far. To me, he didn't old and tired (I'm older and more tired!), but spoke more with gravitas and a controlled honesty. However, IMHO, it is going to be his earlier responses that are going to be remembered. Unfortunately.

I had no overall concern with his demeanor. I am more worried about the laissez faire attitude he implies. It could be read as "Look, I coach the basketball team. If people are molesting, murdering, or whatever else, as long as they are on time for practice - I don't need to know about it." I am quite sure that is not what he means or how he really runs things, but that is how his statements towards the end of the thing could be heard.

Gang,

This is Boeheim finally playing ball. Don't look into it too much. Take it from the sense that JB should not have shot off like he did days ago and now he's playing the party line. Really. Trust me on this minute fact.

Consider it done. Point well taken. Cheers!

The interview was fine he continues to support BF. Yeah he dialed it down a few notches only to be expected. If anything he was a little tired and is sick of answering these sick questions about his close friend and co-worker.
