The coaches job, in college athletics, should be to shield some of the blame and criticism of the public/media from the players to himself. I just don't see how JB blasting McC to the entire media is beneficial to his progress in any way. If I'm a top recruit I take note of how he is treating his best recruit, from the previous year, in the media and I take a step back and re-evaluate if that's something I'd be willing to go through. Boeheim is actively working against having McC being drafted next year. Whether he should or shouldn't go to the draft is irrelevant. The NBA is this kid's lifelong dream and the coach he is playing for is telling the entire world he isn't deserving of his shot in the league yet and should only be taken seriously as a draft candidate until JB tells the media so. Why would a big time recruit willingly subject himself to that possibility when he could go elsewhere and have a coach who will work to assist him in that dream. I think JB's comment comes off horribly.

Boeheim's not wrong, but that doesn't mean he isn't being an a-hole.
