So, with today's win James Arthur Boeheim upped his won total to 936 victories.

We're 16-0. Given how the last few seasons have gone, it is reasonable [not guaranteed, but reasonable] to expect that we can get 14 more wins this year or thereabouts. If we get 14, he'll hit the 950 victory milestone this year.

Next season--again, no guarantees, but let's assume that we have a similar year of ~30 wins. He'd be on or about 980.

And regardless of exactly how many he gets in '14-'15, he'd definitely eclipse the 1000 win mark that next year.

Unbelievable. Rarefied air--even if Coach K is a little ahead of him.

Does JB have two more full seasons in him after this year?

That's a good point--I suppose if he wins one, it would ratchet up the likelihood that JB decides to hang 'em up and go out on top.
Don't count on it.

I think he's staying through the Olympics year and then he and Coach K retire together, both with over 1000 wins.

Cheers,
Neil

I think if JB won it all this year, he would still probably come back. Especially if Ennis returns. The lure of back to back would be too much to pass on.

Calhoun claimed he couldn't retire after his fluke win because he had so many players returning and thought he could repeat. So it seems to me that might be a powerful incentive to return. And for SU and JB the possibility of repeat would be real. Hard to leave.

I believe Coach K said he believes any coach in the Olympics needs to be an active coach. So I agree with both of them staying at least through 2016.

You heard it here first - Coach B's got his eyes on 1200.

He is at the top of his game right now - his preparation, his in game adjustments and his late game play calling are all the best it has ever been. Why quit now? As long as he is healthy and still loves it, why quit?

Hopefully he still thinks it's too early to retire.

Indeed why retire at all?

He seems so energized and focused and above all clearly enjoying himself. Retirement is bunk .. hes in great health and has a wonderful supportive family. Hopkins' will just have to be patient knowing when he does take over he too can stay as long as he enjoys it.

AND he's got a house full of children. Might not be as eager to retire as many would be at his age.

The bigger and more important question is does Hop make it to 1000, 1200 or whatever the number is? If the number is 1200 is it better for him to leave and get HC experience and then come back in 6 years?
