You ever travel to Europe?
They left the Melo center at 6:15 AM. Means JB was probably up at 4. They got to Como at 9 AM local time, which means it was 3 AM in Syracuse. So, he had already pretty much been up for 24 hours by the time he got there.
Then, maybe he took a nap for an hour or two but your best shot of getting acclimated is to stay up all day and go to bed at normal Italian time, which would have meant staying up another 9 or 10 hours at least...so somewhere around 35 hours with minimal sleep.
You do not recover from that in a single day at his age. He!!, nobody does.
