JB's Sweet 16 Press Conference.

Good stuff. Also in the player's interviews, Lydon acknowledged that they are well aware that they are getting no respect and everyone says they don't deserve to be there. So that answers that question.

Awesome. Thanks for posting OX. My favorite comments:

On Mark Few: "I forget which Nike trip it was, but he jumped into our card game and got his butt kicked...he took it well. He handled it well and took his beating like a man. But he's a world-class fisherman. I can't hold a candle to him fishing-wise."

On what he tells recruits: "When I go out, I tell players I'm going to push them. They're going to get pushed, and if they're not responding, I'm going to push them harder." In my opinion, not all players will like that, but some players will love that, and those are the players we want. Great quote.

On Mike G: "We never envisioned him as a point guard, and if I was asked at the time if he would be a point guard, I would have said no. But he's put a tremendous amount of work in, and we've kind of fit the offense to utilize his skills as a point guard."

On Mike G's recruitment: "Autry had seen him a lot. I had only seen him one time, and I didn't like him at all. And then he went to Duke. I didn't think he was that good to be honest with you. He couldn't shoot and he wasn't really a guard. But Adrian liked him, and contrary to popular opinion, I do listen to people." Gold.

At the very end, there's a few comments on how to get the most out of their players. Not going to quote it here, so you have to watch if you want to see. :)

So much wisdom in 21 minutes. Really worth listening to. Gonna miss this guy when he hangs em up.

I liked his comments about learning how to play Syracuse's 2-3 zone.

JB mentioned recruiting being a gamble, thinking some guys would be really good and they weren't. I wonder who are the top players he thought coming in would be really good, and for whatever reason they just weren't

Paul Harris and Terrence Roberts come to mind as possibilities.

I didn't want to be the first to say it but he was the first one to come to mind for me. He still has time though

When he's in the mood to talk, it's fun to listen to his pressers.

mike waters : "coach what do you think about moving mike gbinje to point guard ?"
JB: " hmmmm you watched the game... you tell me NEXT!
donna ditta : " coach what about gonzaga coach mark few ?"
JB : "why don't you ask him NEXT !"
some student reporter : "have your comments against your own players affected recruiting ? "
JB: (fixed angry disgusted glare) "screw you little squirrel ! NNNEEEEXXXTTT! nothing ? i'm gone !"

yeah jim is a real peach when he's talking to the out of market press.

Heh, I was expecting him to go nuts when the guy questioned him about negative recruiting as a result of his comments about Ennis and Roberson. He ignored the part about Ennis (luckily!)

Mike Waters asked about 1/3 of the questions today. I'm not sure JB cares all that much.

Malachi went full-on Nuke LaLoosh with his answers. No chance he's going to get embroiled in any controversy with those generic answers. Loved it.

I hope someday to get a chance to see plugged-in Roberson crack a big, genuine smile. Reminiscent of Jeremy McNeil, who I know was wrestling with some personal difficulties and losses, even as he helped bring home the big one that gave us long-suffering 'Cuse fans our "one before the grave."

As frustrating as it's been at times this year, and as much as I really want to see us take down the Zags, I think everything from here on in is gravy. And I'm hugely optimistic about the future. Building around a core of Richardson, Lydon, Roberson, Coleman, and Howard makes me look forward to next year. But not before we kick some more ass in this campaign.

"I've never cursed at players." Bwahahahaha. God Love You Jim, but we all know that is not true.
at least not for the bad plays they made. Love how he threw his sister under the bus too!

Don't forget Chukwu. He's a big piece. Literally and figuratively.

That's a very good point. Thanks for the reminder, which puts me in an even better mood.
