Long time lurker coming up for the UCONN game with family and friends. Is this hotel any good ? Seems to be the only one with availability that looks even halfway decent. $300 a night is a lot, but at least you get a $50 Dinosaur BBQ gift certificate...any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

It's a little one dimensional

Very nice renovations. Right in the heart of Armory Square, and , you can walk to the Dino. Pricey, but well worth it just for the proximity to everything

Yes it should be very good...I'd say 2 star worst case...borderline 4 star best case. I haven't stayed there since it was a Hawthorn Suites about 10 years ago...It is a great location if you want to walk around Armory Square.

If you wanna save some money there are some good options 10 minutes north in the suburbs

read my Tailgate Blog for ideas

Thanks for the info guys - much appreciated. TexanMark your Tailgate Blog is well done !

If you dont mins driving to and from, I have heard good things about the Red Mill Inn in Baldwinsville. No food services though.

If you are with friends and want something different...try the Red Mill Inn in Baldwinsville. I think the Canal Locks will still be operational with some boat traffic. LOL Capt Tuttle and I were on the same wavelength...I wouldn't worry about food a few walkable places and isn't the diner in B'ville close by the Red Mill Inn one of the best old school diners in CNY?

I am staying in Carrier Circle at Hilton Garden. It's much cheaper and not a bad ride...though I would have more fun staying in Armory Square!

It's about a half-mile walk to Dino. Believe it or not, I actually have a couple friends that would balk at that (especially the walk back with a belly full of pulled pork). I'm with you though: not bad at all. The real bonus is the easy access to Armory Square though. If that sort of nightlife is BigRic's thing, then Jefferson Clinton is a no-brainer.

If he prefers easy access to the Dome/campus, then Genesee Grande or the University Sheraton might be more to his liking. The Genesee Grande has pretty good food, and the Sheraton has a newly remodeled bar area (Sitrus) that's pretty well done. The latter also gives you especially easy access to Marshall Street if BigRic's looking to relive his student days on the hill. The downtown Crowne Plaza is also quite good (if you don't mind pie-shaped rooms!). The food there is atrocious, but the service by the hotel staff is exemplary.

Those are honestly the only four hotels I'd stay in the city (although I haven't tried Hotel Skyler yet... could be good). After those 4/5, you end up with places like the Econo Lodge. No thanks.

Golllllll-ly. One sometimes hears about people like that, but how do they get by on an everyday basis? It's like a six-block walk (and a couple of those are really short blocks. I don't know of any way to traverse six blocks in a city without walking.

Good recommendations; Crowne Plaza is just about equidistant between downtown and the Hill. Each neighborhood has a lot of amenities (though the bars on the Hill are inferior and skew a little young). Jefferson Clinton would be a good choice. Even better choice if the Armory bars still sponsor free shuttle trips to Dome events.

I second Carrier Circle. Lots of choices and significantly less expensive than the Genny Grande/Sheraton/Crowne Plaza. Very easy access to campus by car.

Stay in liverpool for like 70 bucks a night and spend the 225 you saved on dinosaur, dome beers, and allsorts of other goodies.

Liverpool is an 8 minute dr to the campus, 5 minutes to downtown.

A lot of truth to that. Follow us down from Liverpool, and we'll show you where we park -- it's a highly classified secret -- and you can follow us up to the tailgate.
